Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 272

“Your brother is a smart man. He’ll know how to make the right choices for himself. Don’t put so much pressure on yourself, and above all, don’t let this come between the two of you.”

He knew Marguerite all too well—knew exactly what kind of person she was. He also understood that when she set her mind to something, she wouldn’t rest until she saw it through, no matter how hard it got.

“But I can’t help feeling like my brother’s already thrown himself in headfirst,” she admitted. “He used to tease me for being hopelessly romantic, but now it seems we’re not so different after all!”

“What really gets me, though, is not knowing what she’s truly thinking. I want to understand what else she’s gone through—what she might be hiding beneath the surface.”

Right now, Marguerite was completely consumed by these worries. She had no idea how to handle the situation, and the uncertainty was eating away at her.

“Don’t worry,” Leonard reassured her, “I’m not done looking into this. I’ll make sure to get a clearer picture of who this woman really is.”

The next morning.

Marguerite was just about to leave the house when her phone rang—it was Hogan.

“I heard you and Emily went out yesterday—shopping, dinner, the works. Sounded like you two had a good time?”

Marguerite’s questions tumbled out, tangled and uncertain. She wasn’t sure if she should tell Hogan everything she’d heard.

“What else could she say?” Hogan sighed. “She left that house the moment she turned eighteen and never looked back. I doubt she ever will. Whenever we’re together, I don’t bring up her past—not when I know how much it hurts her.”

He knew when to push and when to let things be. The last thing he wanted was for his girlfriend to be haunted by the shadows of her childhood, so he never mentioned it.

So Leonard was right—she really hadn’t told Hogan everything about her past.

But now, Marguerite found herself torn. Should she say something? Her emotions were threatening to get the better of her.
