Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 273

“It really can’t have been easy for her, growing up in that kind of family. I know she’s suffered a lot over the years, so you absolutely have to treat her well. Still, I can’t shake the feeling that her family situation isn’t as simple as it looks. And honestly, she herself doesn’t seem quite as innocent as she appears.”

Marguerite couldn’t help but throw out a few probing remarks, her tone cautious.

“What do you mean by that?” All at once, Hogan’s face turned serious. He looked at his sister with wary eyes, as if he’d just realized something was off.

“It’s just a woman’s intuition, that’s all. I’m probably overthinking it—look at you, getting all worked up!” Marguerite tried to sound casual, though she clearly felt a bit helpless.

“Marguerite, you can’t just say things like that. She could very well become your sister-in-law one day. I want you two to get along—after all, we’ll all be family. She’s already had a tough upbringing; I’d like for our family to be a source of comfort for her.”

“She really did go through a lot—her life before was bleak, almost hopeless. For her to be so cheerful and optimistic despite everything… it’s honestly incredible. I just want to protect her now, make sure she never has to go through anything like that again.”

Hogan’s heart ached for his girlfriend. As he spoke, a deep sadness flickered across his face, as if he couldn’t bear to hear anyone speak ill of her or drag up her past.

It was painfully clear: Hogan had truly fallen for this woman. She’d become the center of his world.

But Marguerite was thinking about her brother’s future happiness. She knew she couldn’t keep these doubts to herself.

He truly cared for Hannah and would never do anything behind her back. Still, he understood his sister’s motives; she was only looking out for him, and he couldn’t fault her for that.

Now that Marguerite had started, there was no point holding back. She told Hogan everything, not leaving out a single detail.

“You know Leonard, right? He’s incredibly thorough—if he dug something up, you can bet it’s accurate. He wouldn’t have come to me otherwise.”

The moment Marguerite finished, Hogan’s face changed. A complex, troubled expression clouded his features.
