Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 274

Marguerite found herself at a loss for words. She didn’t know what to say, much less how to comfort her brother. But the truth was out now, and, painful as it was, it was better for Hogan to know before their marriage than to discover it years later, when it could hurt even more.

“As a woman myself, I can’t help but feel sympathy for her,” Marguerite said quietly. “But no matter what, she hid these things from you. There are some things you deserve to know.”

“People can be selfish. I understand why she kept it to herself, but as your sister, I have to ask you to think carefully about this. You need to consider whether the two of you are truly right for each other—whether you should really be together.”

“I don’t want to watch you fall deeper and deeper in love, only to end up on a road you can’t turn back from. The problems in her family could one day poison your relationship, and the fact that she’s been pregnant with someone else’s child before… I don’t know if that’s something you can live with.”

Marguerite made herself perfectly clear. This was exactly why she’d decided to tell Hogan everything.

“Alright. I understand,” Hogan replied.

He felt a storm of emotions inside him. He’d never imagined the girl he loved had been through such things. Hannah had always told him little bits and pieces about her family—how her parents favored her brothers, how her siblings treated her—but never anything like this.

She’d never breathed a word about her stepfather. To think that, barely out of girlhood, she’d endured so much darkness… How many years would it take to heal from scars like that?

If he broke up with her now, it would only hurt her more. But then again, by keeping all this from him, hadn’t she already been dishonest about their relationship?

“Marguerite, please don’t tell Mom and Dad about any of this,” Hogan said quietly. “I don’t want them to worry about me.”

Their parents both knew about his relationship with Hannah, and lately, they’d been getting along so well. His mother had even mentioned wanting to meet Hannah soon.

But with everything that had come to light, it didn’t seem right anymore.

“Don’t worry,” Marguerite promised. “Even if they need to know, it’ll come from you, not me. I won’t say a word.”
