Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 280

Marguerite’s words always carried weight with Grandmother, and she genuinely enjoyed hearing him speak.

“Well, since Marguerite has said so much, tomorrow will be my last visit to the doctor. If there’s still nothing they can do, I’ll simply let it go. Besides, I know my kind of ailment isn’t something that can really be cured—especially at my age,” Mrs. Murphy said with a weary certainty.

The elderly Mrs. Murphy knew her own body well. She was tired of wasting time on endless appointments and, even more so, of wasting her family’s time.

The only reason she hadn’t given up yet was because she needed to see the company through its current turmoil. She wanted to know when things would finally settle down; she still worried constantly about the family business.

Looking back on her life, Mrs. Murphy couldn’t help but feel she’d failed in some way. Both of her sons had disappointed her—neither seemed to care about their mother anymore.

And to make matters worse, the grandchild she trusted most wasn’t even her own flesh and blood. She told herself those things didn’t matter now, but a quiet sadness lingered in her heart.

“Grandma, I know you’ll get better. I really believe it!” Marguerite said, struggling to find the right words to comfort her. Seeing Grandmother like this made his heart ache.

“Grandma, there’s something I’d like to discuss with you,” Leonard spoke up gently. “Honestly, the biggest source of tension in our family right now is that I inherited the company. But if you want, I can step aside and let Aaron take over. The company’s stable now, and I think he can handle things.”

Leonard brought up the issue himself, understanding that from Grandmother’s perspective, she could have handed the company to one of her own sons. The only reason she hadn’t was because she didn’t trust them to manage it properly.

“He can’t handle running the company. And you’ve seen for yourself—after everything that’s happened, there are plenty of people just waiting to swoop in and take what belongs to our family. I could hand the business over to Aaron, but how long do you think he could hold onto it?”

Mrs. Murphy had thought it all through, and her concerns were valid.

“The family has its share of conflicts, yes. But as long as the company stays in our own hands, I’m content. I don’t want anyone outside the family to take over.”

Right now, everyone was just waiting for them to slip up—so they could seize control of everything Mrs. Murphy had spent her life building.
