Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 281

"I know what you're thinking, and I understand that everything you've done has been for my sake. But the company isn’t a child’s game—we can’t just walk away from it on a whim!"

"They’re causing trouble simply because they feel slighted, but if the company takes a massive hit, our whole family will have to face the consequences. That’s why I feel the only person I can truly trust with the company is you, Leonard. Only then can I have peace of mind."

Right now, Mrs. Murphy was single-mindedly focused on putting the company back in order—and she wanted it done quickly. She hoped that, together, Leonard and his cousin could get things back on track and manage the company well.

Her greatest worry was always the company, never her own health. She needed Leonard to take charge personally.

"Leonard," she said, her voice gentle but firm, "I’ve told you before, don’t let this weigh on you. No matter what happens, you’ll always have me behind you. You see my health isn’t what it used to be, but the only reason I’ve held on this long is to help you!"

"No matter what comes our way, I will do everything I can to support you. I know you’ll make the company stronger than ever. If I handed things over to anyone else, I could never rest easy."

What truly kept Mrs. Murphy up at night wasn’t her own frailty, but the fate of the company—a lifetime of work, her pride and joy.

She’d made herself perfectly clear—there was nothing more Leonard could say.

"But—"

"Grandma, I understand. Don’t worry. From now on, I won’t talk about leaving—and I won’t give up on the company."

He’d been set on his decision, but after hearing her words, Leonard found himself unable to let go. He couldn’t just hand the company over to someone else.

"I know you’ve been under a lot of stress lately," Mrs. Murphy said softly. "Some days must feel unbearable, and there are times when the company’s problems seem impossible to fix."

"But you’ve never once thought of giving up. You’ve always tried your hardest to solve every issue. I may not always say it, but I see everything you do."
