Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 29

Meanwhile—

Benjamin shot out of the building like an arrow, but Fiona had already slipped into her car and sped off, leaving nothing behind but a cloud of exhaust.

His face darkened. Pulling out his phone, he ordered his assistant to track down Fiona’s whereabouts immediately, then strode back toward the company with long, purposeful steps.

Back at the office, Benjamin took the elevator upstairs. As the doors slid open, he spotted several of the company’s senior board members—men whose voices carried real weight—filing out of the conference room. Marguerite trailed behind them like an anxious shadow.

Benjamin’s brow knotted with suspicion and annoyance. His voice was icy as he addressed them: “Mr. Smith, Mr. Cooper—what brings you here?”

He knew exactly what was going on. The old guard and Marguerite meeting behind closed doors, without his knowledge? They were obviously scheming about something they didn’t want him to know.

The thought sent a surge of irritation through him. He shot Marguerite a look so cold and sharp it could have cut glass. Whatever lingering guilt he’d felt toward her vanished in an instant.

“Marguerite, whatever’s going on between us, there’s no need to drag the company into it, is there?” His words were like frost, each one biting and deliberate.

Mr. Smith couldn’t take it any longer. He stepped forward, his voice booming with frustration. “Mr. Foster, what’s that supposed to mean? Ms. Taylor is handling a critical project. We were just discussing the investment ratios. Do you have a problem with that?”

“And let’s not forget,” Smith continued, folding his arms with a sneer, “you used to call us in for private meetings all the time. Ms. Taylor never had a word to say back then.”

Benjamin’s lips curled into a cold, mocking smile. “Mr. Smith, this is strictly between the two of us. Since you’ve finished your discussion, I think it’s time you left.”

Marguerite stood to the side, listening to Smith’s words of disappointment and scorn. Her feelings were a tangled mess.

She had no energy left to argue with Benjamin anymore. Every word felt like it drained her.

With a cold, indifferent expression, she turned to leave.

But Benjamin wasn’t about to let her walk away. The moment she moved, his eyes flashed with fury. He strode after her, grabbing her wrist with a grip so tight it felt like he might snap the bone.

Marguerite winced in pain, but Benjamin didn’t care. He hauled her along like she was just another object, dragging her straight into his office.
