Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 297

“I really like him, and honestly, these feelings are almost impossible to control. I never planned to be with Hogan, but when those emotions hit me, it was so hard not to fall for him. Maybe I was just greedy for that bit of happiness, so I let myself say yes. But looking back, I realize I’m just not good enough for him.”

Hannah’s tone was unyielding. It was clear she’d made up her mind—there was no room for debate.

She couldn’t bring herself to face Hogan, not after he’d found out about her past. The thought alone made her want to disappear.

The truth was, she was starting to enjoy being on her own. Life felt lighter this way. She didn’t have to worry about anyone else’s feelings or expectations; as long as she was happy, that was enough.

“Hannah, I—”

“Marguerite, you really don’t need to try to talk me out of this. Honestly, I like you a lot, and I hope we can stay friends—if you want that. But as for me and Hogan, I just don’t think there’s any future there.”

“Feelings aren’t like other things. With everything else, I can let it go or pretend it doesn’t matter. But when it comes to my past… I just can’t bring myself to ignore it.”

There was an unmistakable finality in her voice. She wasn’t going to budge.

“Well, since you’ve already made up your mind, I won’t push anymore. Relationships belong to the people in them; as an outsider, it’s not my place. And really, this isn’t like any other problem.”

“But I do think you should take a breath before making any big decisions. Don’t rush into something you can’t take back.”

It was obvious Hannah didn’t want to keep talking. Marguerite could sense the distance, so she had no choice but to leave.

No matter what, Hannah was still polite—she’d spared Marguerite’s feelings. After Marguerite left, Hannah called Hogan and asked him to meet.

“I went to see Hannah today,” Marguerite told him. “She’s not doing well. I tried to talk to her, but she’s really made up her mind. I don’t think she wants to be with you anymore. Maybe you should think about whether it’s time to let go.”

“You two just got together, so even if it ends now, maybe it’s for the best. Honestly, I’m partly to blame for all this—if I hadn’t started digging into things, none of this would’ve happened.”
