Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 296

"Okay."

After a moment's hesitation, Hannah made up her mind and decided to come out. The two of them really did need to talk face-to-face.

Marguerite arrived at Hannah's apartment.

"Hannah, you didn't get any rest yesterday, did you? You look terrible," Marguerite said, concern written all over her face. "I know a lot has happened, but you can’t just let yourself fall apart like this. You need to take care of yourself."

She couldn’t help but worry. Hannah looked utterly drained, her eyes red and swollen from crying.

It was obvious how much Hannah cared about everything that had happened in her past, and it felt as if, after barely climbing out of the darkness, she’d been dragged straight back into the mire.

"Marguerite, you really don’t have to worry about me. I’m fine," Hannah said, trying to sound composed. "I know why you came today. Honestly, you don’t need to say any of this. Things between Hogan and me are nowhere near as simple as you think."

"You might not fully understand what I’ve been through. I can’t just walk away from all that darkness. And I never wanted anyone to know that side of me. But now that you do… I just don’t think I can face you guys anymore."

Despair clouded Hannah’s eyes. Her tone was unyielding, as if the matter was already decided and there was nothing more to discuss.

Marguerite spoke earnestly, her only wish to see the two of them work things out. She hated seeing them like this.

But Hannah’s whole demeanor was off; her eyes were distant, and it was clear how much this weighed on her.

She shook her head, voice trembling. "You don’t know what it was like. There were times I wanted to end it all, just disappear and escape from everything. I didn’t see any reason to keep going."

"But in the end, I realized I just didn’t have the courage. I thought I’d spend the rest of my life alone—until I met Hogan. He showed me what warmth felt like again, and I really do care about him. I just never imagined he’d find out about all of this…"
