Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 312

Marguerite arrived at the little café where she and Hannah had agreed to meet. The early afternoon sun filtered through the windows, catching dust motes in the golden light.

“Marguerite, what brought you here all of a sudden?” Hannah asked as she set her coffee cup down, trying to offer a smile. “You look thinner these days. Are things at home keeping you too busy? No matter what, you have to take care of yourself. And if there’s something weighing you down, let your family help you. You can’t always shoulder everything alone. I know you’re strong-willed, but sometimes we all need a break.”

Marguerite studied Hannah closely. She had changed—a quiet sadness seemed to have settled over her. She didn’t smile as easily as she used to, and she looked utterly exhausted, her face more angular than Marguerite remembered. As a dance instructor, Hannah had always kept herself in great shape, but now she seemed almost fragile, as if recent hardships had worn her thin.

Marguerite took a deep breath and decided not to skirt around the issue. “You’re right, things at home have been tough lately. There have been a lot of changes, and sometimes it gets overwhelming. But to be honest, I’m here today because my brother asked me to come.”

She looked Hannah in the eye, her voice steady. There was no point tiptoeing around matters of the heart, Marguerite thought. If there was a chance for Hannah to understand how Hogan felt, she owed it to him to be honest.

Hannah blinked in surprise. “Oh?”

She had said everything she needed to say, laying Hogan’s feelings bare and making it clear how serious he was.

Hannah listened, her expression faltering. She looked away, her face clouded with emotion. She still cared for Hogan—Marguerite could see that much, even if Hannah was determined to hide it.

“Marguerite,” Hannah said quietly, “everyone needs time to move on. After we broke up, it wasn’t easy for me either. But I believe that, with time, things will get better. Life goes on, right? We just have to keep looking forward.”
