Goodbye My Arrogant Ex novel Chapter 46

Still, a man like him probably already had everything he could ever want. Finding a gift for someone like that was no simple task.

Marguerite couldn’t help but laugh at herself. In the past, she’d spent countless hours researching what men liked, meticulously picking out presents for Benjamin and hoping, foolishly, that each one would make him happy.

But he’d tossed her gifts aside without a second thought—handing them off to his drinking buddies as if they meant nothing at all. He’d never once cherished the care she put into them.

How pathetic she’d been, trailing after him for years even as he trampled all over her feelings, yet never thinking to walk away.

She thought about messaging Leonard to ask for advice, her fingers hovering over her phone as she typed and erased the words over and over. In the end, she couldn’t bring herself to send anything.

After all, they hadn’t even met in person yet. Wouldn’t it be too forward to ask something like that?

“Is something wrong?”

The reply surprised her—before she’d even managed to send a message, a text from Leonard appeared on her screen.

Marguerite froze. Was he about to message her at the exact same time?

Almost as if he’d read her mind, Leonard sent another message: “I just finished work and was about to check in—did you like the necklace I gave you today?”

“I did, thank you.” Marguerite replied at once, but before she could type anything more, another message popped up.

“If you like it, I’ll pick out some more jewelry for you next time. I suppose most women like that sort of thing, don’t they?”

Marguerite stared at her phone, suddenly swept away by memories she couldn’t hold back.
