Early that morning, as soon as I stepped out of my room, I noticed you were gone—of course, I find you here. Please, don’t let this issue spark another fight with Maggie. You just got out of the hospital; we’ve all been worried sick about you.
Ben already said he’d handle everything. Besides, Ben and Maggie are just having a spat; there’s no need for you to get upset over this.
Fiona hurried over and gently took Mrs. Foster’s arm, her voice soft and soothing, putting on the air of a thoughtful confidant.
Watching the two of them, Marguerite’s face remained cold and unreadable.
This morning? Does this mean they’re all living together now? That was fast. Marguerite almost laughed at the absurdity.
“Fiona, you can spare me the pep talk. Even if I drop dead right here, I will never let her get away with this. I was nothing but good to her, and look where it’s gotten me. Did she ever consider what we once meant to each other?” Mrs. Foster’s voice trembled with anger.
It was true—Mrs. Foster had treated her well, and even when Mrs. Foster stormed into the office, causing a scene more than once, Fiona had always been patient with her. But lately, her behavior had grown more and more outrageous; Fiona simply couldn’t put up with it any longer.
Besides, this was between Benjamin and herself. She didn’t want a third person meddling, but of course, that never stopped anyone.
In truth, she secretly hoped their argument would escalate, that Mrs. Foster would wind up back in the hospital. Then Ben would never forgive Maggie.
“Fiona, there’s nothing more to say. The reason I came here today is simple—I want compensation. Every loss the company suffered because of those contracts must be paid back in full. If not, I’m not leaving. Not today.”
At last, Mrs. Foster revealed her true motive. She was determined to get what she wanted, and she wasn’t backing down until Marguerite paid the price.
Marguerite let out a cold laugh. “I’ve said it before—your son made this mess himself. Don’t blame anyone else. And you’re not getting a single cent from me. If you want to make a scene, go ahead. I’ve already wrapped up my business here. There’s nothing left for me at the company.”
