Fiona deliberately leaned closer, pressing herself against him in a silent attempt to offer some warmth. But Benjamin instinctively pulled away, still keeping a careful distance between them.
A sharp pain twisted in Fiona’s chest, and for a moment, something cold and ruthless flashed in her eyes.
That spiteful woman had already cut things off so decisively, yet Benjamin still couldn’t bring himself to leave. Did she mean anything at all to him? Did he ever truly care?
After leaving, the two of them returned to Benjamin’s house. As soon as they stepped inside, a new idea took root in Fiona’s mind. There were some things she didn’t need to do herself—if she simply voiced her wishes, someone else would step up on her behalf.
The next morning.
Marguerite arrived at the office alone. Hogan had gone out of his way to help her yesterday, handling so many crises—it had been a late night for both of them. She wanted to let him sleep in a little longer.
Besides, she had a meeting scheduled with the CEO of Howell Corp. later that day. If she finished her work quickly, she could swing by to pick up Hogan, and the two of them could head over together.
She had barely set foot outside the office building when Mrs. Foster stormed toward her, face twisted with fury.
“Marguerite!” Mrs. Foster barked her name, and before Marguerite could react, a slap came flying her way.
Luckily, Marguerite moved fast, dodging the blow and catching Mrs. Foster’s wrist in a firm grip.
