Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 54

Fiona’s sobs echoed through the room, loud and raw, her chest tight with anger toward Marguerite.

That spiteful woman—how dare she use such dirty tricks, cornering Fiona until there was nowhere left to run?

Well, if that’s how Marguerite wanted to play, then neither of them would get any peace.

“Fiona, she’s only doing this because of me,” Benjamin said softly, guilt thick in his voice. “I’m the reason you’re caught up in all this. I’m sorry.”

He wrapped an arm around her, his hand gently rubbing her back, his tone tender and full of regret. “Even if, in the end, you lose your degree, I’ll look after you for the rest of your life. You don’t have to worry about a thing.”

But Fiona only cried harder, her voice choked with heartbreak and frustration. “You know how much that degree means to me. I know I never should have used Maggie’s research from the start, but I didn’t have a choice then.”

It had been Benjamin’s idea, after all—he was the one who’d given her Marguerite’s patent.

So, when it came down to it, Benjamin was the reason she’d ended up like this.

Her words made Benjamin’s guilt even heavier.

Just then, Benjamin’s phone rang again. It was one of his assistants.

“Mr. Foster, Mr. Lee just called. The partnership we agreed on? He’s backed out. They’ve found another firm.”

“And over lunch today, Mr. Cooper’s secretary hinted that our project with them is probably off the table, too.”

Since his relationship with Marguerite began to unravel, company after company had started turning them down.

“It’s all my fault. I wish I could help, but maybe I should just go talk to Maggie—apologize, try to calm her down. Maybe then she’ll forgive you. I hate seeing you so upset over all this.”

She looked up at him, her big eyes shining with innocent concern, the picture of selfless sweetness.

Benjamin met her gaze. “If only Marguerite had half your kindness, Fiona. But now she’s just set on fighting me, and I don’t know how long this will go on.”

“You haven’t done anything wrong; there’s no reason for you to apologize to her. I’ll sort this out—it’s between me and Marguerite. You were dragged into this, and I promise: I’ll make her apologize to you.”

His jaw was set. This time, he was determined to teach Marguerite a real lesson. If he didn’t, she’d only push further.

Fiona shook her head, her voice barely above a whisper. “I don’t need an apology. Don’t bother about me—just focus on fixing things at work.”
