Benjamin lay sprawled on the floor, gutted and helpless—not even able to land a single blow in return.
Hogan had never liked him. Today just gave him the perfect excuse to finally put Benjamin in his place. But even watching Benjamin’s pathetic state didn’t quench the anger burning in Hogan’s chest.
After all, the person who’d gotten hurt was his own little sister.
For Hogan, this minor pain was nothing.
“Want to go another round?” Hogan’s voice was icy.
“N-no, please… No more…” Benjamin stammered, desperation flooding his voice. “Just let me go, I’m begging you…”
In the end, Benjamin caved and pleaded for mercy. If this kept up, he really thought he might die right there in the office.
Only then did Hogan let him go, yanking at his tie in irritation. “Get out. And don’t let me see your face again!”
Benjamin scrambled to his feet, humiliated and limping, not daring to look back for fear Hogan might throw another punch. He hurried out as quickly as his battered body allowed.
As soon as he was gone, Marguerite watched the door, her cool gaze flickering with a complicated emotion.
She remembered: it hadn’t been that long ago, in this very office, when she and Benjamin had just launched the company together. He’d promised her that the office would only get bigger, that they would be happy together for a long, long time.
And now, look at them.
Benjamin met her at the airport. As soon as Fiona spotted him, she rushed over and threw her arms around him, sobbing, “I’m so upset. I can’t take this.”
Her cries were loud enough to draw stares from people nearby.
Benjamin gently patted her back and whispered, “Don’t cry. There are too many people here—if they see you like this, they’ll think I did something awful to you. Let’s talk at home, okay? Whatever it is, I’ll take care of it.”
His heart ached to see her so devastated; he’d never seen Fiona cry like this. At the same time, he felt a surge of bitter resentment for Marguerite. Why did she have to be so stubborn? Just to get his attention and avoid a divorce, she’d caused this whole nightmare.
“I’ll never get my degree now,” Fiona sobbed. “Why did Maggie have to ruin me like this? I never tried to get between you two… I’ve always treated her like a real sister.”
She sniffled, wiping her tears. “Please, Ben, take me to see Maggie. Ask her to forgive me. I’ll disappear from your lives if that’s what she wants—just ask her to clear my name. Please… that’s all I want.”
