Goodbye My Arrogant Ex novel Chapter 81

Marguerite looked at the two men in surprise.

Was Leonard really coming back with them, too?

“Come on, let’s get going!” Hogan called out. “Mom just called—Dad’s cooking tonight, made your favorites himself. They’ve both been waiting all day for you, so let’s not keep them in suspense any longer!”

Hogan climbed into the car, ushering both Marguerite and Leonard in after him.

On the drive, Marguerite’s hands twisted nervously in her dress as she stared out the window.

She wasn’t sure why, but Leonard’s presence made her even more tense. They'd spent short stretches together these past few days, and she’d been staying at his place, but suddenly meeting his family like this—so abruptly—made her heart pound with anxious uncertainty.

What should have been a joyful, exciting occasion now felt heavy and overwhelming. Still, she trusted Leonard. After all, he was the man her parents had chosen for her—her intended—and she was sure they’d be fond of him.

Leonard chatted with Hogan throughout the ride, but every now and then, Marguerite caught him glancing over at her, quiet concern flickering in his eyes.

Before she realized it, exhaustion overtook her and she drifted off to sleep.

When she opened her eyes again, the car had already stopped in front of her childhood home.

A jolt of emotion seized Marguerite as she gazed at the familiar house. It hurt—far more than she’d anticipated. She hadn’t set foot here in years, despite how often she’d dreamt of returning. This was where everyone she missed most in the world waited for her.

The sound of the car brought her parents running out from the house. As soon as they saw their daughter, tears streamed down both their faces, unstoppable.
