Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 96

“Next time, you might not get off so easily!”

Her voice was firm, unwavering.

“Alright, alright, it’s all in the past now. I promise nothing like this will ever happen again. Everyone’s back today, and I’m in a good mood. Let’s all sit down and have a meal together!”

When the elderly Mrs. Murphy saw them, her face lit up with genuine happiness. The cheerful atmosphere in the house seemed to grow even warmer.

“Mom, I brought you a gift from overseas!” Mrs. Murphy produced a lovely pearl necklace she had picked out and handed it to the old lady.

The old woman was delighted, her smile bright and sincere. The bond between the two was as close as that of mother and daughter—so much warmer than when Edith was around.

Soon, the housekeeper brought out dinner, and everyone gathered around the dining table.

“Marguerite, whenever you’re here, treat this place as your own home, alright? Don’t be shy—if you want anything, just let me know, or tell Grandma.”

“I understand.” This was Marguerite’s second time meeting everyone; she was much more relaxed than before. The tension she had once felt was gone, replaced by an easy comfort. She found herself truly enjoying the warmth of this family.

Being here with Leonard’s family was nothing like what she’d experienced in the past. Benjamin’s mother had always been kind, but there had always been a sense of calculation, a careful keeping of the score.

With Leonard’s mother, it was completely different—she felt genuinely welcomed.

Normally, Leonard’s mother was warm and gracious, but when it came to matters like this, she never wavered. She had always been a woman who treated people exactly as they deserved.

Edith gave a little laugh, tossing her head. “Sister-in-law, you’re being dramatic. All I did before was speak the truth. It’s hardly as bad as you make it sound. Everything I said was for the good of our family!”

“Enough.” Leonard broke in, his voice tired. “Why do you have to pick a fight every time you come back? We’re all family here—can’t we just get along for once?”

The old lady put her fork down, her eyes sharp. “As long as I’m in this house, I won’t allow any discord. If anyone’s unhappy, say it outright—there’s no need for all this arguing.”

She fixed everyone at the table with a firm gaze. “If I hear any more of this bickering, don’t blame me for being harsh. Whoever can’t get along is welcome to never set foot in my home again—I won’t tolerate these fights any longer.”
