I Owe the Tyrant Four Little Heirs novel Chapter 3

The position was for a receptionist.

With four children to support, finding a job was urgent. After paying the kindergarten tuition and three months’ rent yesterday, she had just over eight hundred dollars left to her name. She had dropped out of college after getting pregnant, so she didn’t have a degree. Just getting an interview at a place like Jareth Media felt like a miracle, and she was determined not to waste it.-

As Niamh reached the ground floor of her building, she ran into her landlady, Lyric, a middle-aged woman decked out in jewels.

Lyric’s husband had passed away years ago, leaving her with sixty rental properties and no children. She was, in the truest sense of the word, a professional landlady.

“Ms. Lynn, where are you off to in such a hurry?” Lyric asked warmly, cradling a small dog in her arms.

“I have a job interview,” Niamh replied. For some reason, she had felt an odd sense of familiarity and kindness from the woman since the day they met. Lyric was a good person; after learning about Niamh’s situation, she had lowered her rent by fifty dollars a month.

“Oh, an interview! Well, good luck! It’s not easy being a single mother, especially with four little ones to raise,” Lyric said, waving her on sympathetically. “Drive safely, now,” she called out as Niamh hurried away.

...

Thirty minutes later, Niamh pulled her small electric car up to the Jareth Media building. Just as she was about to get out, her phone rang.

She quickly answered.

“Is this Ms. Niamh Lynn?”

“Yes, it is.”

“This is Winnie from Versatile Home Services. I’ve found an hourly cleaning job for you—four nights a week, from seven to nine p.m. It pays fifty dollars per session. Are you interested?”

Niamh’s heart leaped. The client was generous. Four nights a week at fifty each was two hundred a week—over eight hundred a month! There was no reason to refuse.
