I Owe the Tyrant Four Little Heirs novel Chapter 43

Even though his mom had won today’s battle, he was afraid that Rhoslyn and Mr. Bragg would continue to target her.

By now, Niamh had finished her meal. She saved the leftovers to take home for dinner. The food from a high-end restaurant was leagues better than anything from a regular place. As she washed the containers, she mentally thanked Mr. Bragg a thousand times over.

But when she came out of the breakroom, a message from him was waiting on her phone: “Finished lunch? Was it good?”

“Yes, yes, it was delicious, Mr. Bragg. Thank you,” she quickly replied.

“Good. Since you’re done, come to my office so we can settle the bill,” Jareth wrote back.

Settle the bill? A sense of dread washed over her.

“Oh no, don’t tell me he’s going to make me pay for the meal he gave me.”

She had to get him to reimburse her the 588 dollars. That was a month’s worth of groceries for her and the kids.

When she entered his office, Jareth was dozing in his wheelchair, his face set in its usual scowl, as if someone owed him a billion dollars.

“Mr. Bragg, the lunch was 588 dollars. Should I get reimbursed from the finance department, or from you?” she asked directly.

At her words, Jareth’s eyes snapped open.

“You were the one who ate the food. Why would you expect me to pay for it? Niamh, where in the world does that make any sense?” he said coldly.

Niamh felt like she was about to explode and take this shameless jerk with her. She forced herself to remain calm. “Mr. Bragg, you were the one who told me to eat it.”

“Do you have any proof?”

“You—!”

“Mr. Bragg, if a question isn’t related to my work, can I choose not to answer?” she snapped.

He was prying into her personal life now. The man was truly a creep.

“From now on, for every question you answer, I’ll deduct five hundred from your debt,” Jareth offered.

Niamh’s eyes lit up, but then the memory of the lunch incident came flooding back. The light in her eyes died. He was probably just trying to trick her again.

“And what about you and Rhoslyn? What’s your relationship?” he pressed. “If you answer both questions, I’ll knock three thousand off your debt.”

Three thousand!

The offer was tempting, but she didn’t trust him. And even if it were true, she didn’t want to talk about it.
