I Owe the Tyrant Four Little Heirs novel Chapter 60

Is he serious? Why is Mr. Bragg suddenly being so nice? His office sofa was big and plush; it would be incredibly comfortable to sleep on.

“The floor is cold,” Jareth continued. “If you get sick and die, who will I collect my fifty thousand dollars from?”

His words were like a bucket of ice water, extinguishing any warmth she had felt.

“No, thank you!” she snapped. “I’m more comfortable on my cardboard.”

She spun around to leave.

“Stop.”

Niamh had just reached the door when Jareth’s command rang out behind her. She took a deep breath and turned back, her eyes filled with exasperation. “Is there something else, Mr. Bragg?”

“You’re quite something, Niamh,” he said, the comment coming out of nowhere.

Something? Was that a genuine compliment?

It didn’t sound like it. His tone was strange, as if there was a hidden meaning behind his words.

“How so, Mr. Bragg?” she asked cautiously. She wasn't about to let her guard down. “I’m hardly as impressive as you. You’re only five years older than me, and you’re already the CEO of a major company. Me? I’m just a janitor.”

Jareth let out a cold snort. “You seem to be quite popular, Niamh. After your performance today, several senior managers suggested I promote you.”
