Niamh frowned. He had been perfectly fine a moment ago. How did her trip to the bathroom turn him back into a tyrant?
“I want to eat grapes. Peel them and feed them to me!” Jareth commanded.
On the other end of the line, Keir was fuming. This guy not only yelled at his mommy but also demanded she feed him grapes? Did he not have hands? Keir was barely four years old and he washed and peeled his own grapes.
Though furious, Keir forced himself to stay silent. He wanted to hear just how this man was bullying his mother. He quietly hit the record button on his own phone, gathering evidence for his future revenge.
“Hmph! Jareth, after all the nice things I said to you, you’re still the same old bully.”
Not wanting to provoke him further, Niamh obediently plucked a grape and held it out to him.
“You didn’t peel it. How am I supposed to eat this?” Jareth said with a sneer.
Niamh paused, then peeled the skin off and offered it to him again.
Jareth just pointed to his own mouth, indicating that she should put it in for him.
She rolled her eyes.
You don’t have hands? I have to feed you? Despite her thoughts, she placed the peeled grape into his mouth.
“One isn’t enough,” he said as he chewed.
Niamh sighed and peeled several more, feeding them to him one by one. As she offered the sixth grape, his mouth suddenly closed around her fingers.
“Mr. Bragg, you—you bit me!” Niamh gasped, her heart leaping into her throat.
“What’s wrong? You don’t want to?” Jareth taunted. “If you don’t, I can find someone who does. There’s a long line of employees waiting to be my secretary.”
Keir’s face was now flushed with rage. This was too much.
A few minutes earlier, Jove had come over and was now sitting beside him, listening intently to the phone. He looked calmer than his brother, but his eyes had taken on a dark, dangerous glint. As Keir was about to explode, Jove tugged on his sleeve, stood up, and walked over to the desk. He opened a laptop and his small hands began to fly across the keyboard.
A sly smile spread across Keir’s face. He knew that Jove was truly angry now.
Jareth, he thought, let’s see how long you can keep this up.
Niamh scooted closer to Jareth on the sofa, preparing to unbutton his jacket.
