I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra) novel Chapter 1

The day I was rushed to the hospital, coughing up blood, Steven Lancaster got engaged to the love of his life.

I called him three times. I needed his signature for the surgery, but he hung up every single time.

A sharp, twisting pain tore through my abdomen, and a bitter laugh escaped my lips. “Five years of marriage… and you’re this heartless.”

At noon, the grand ceremony played out on a massive screen, a spectacle of dazzling fireworks and roaring crowds. Meanwhile, I died alone on a gurney, surrounded by the frantic efforts of doctors.

In the hazy darkness, I suddenly heard the voice of Antonia, Antonia Lopez.

“Zephyra, wake up! Zephyra!”

My eyes shot open, the phantom pain of suffocation still clinging to me. I turned my head and saw Antonia standing by my bed, her face etched with annoyance.

“Zephyra, if your stomach isn't hurting that bad, you should get home. Today is your and Steven’s wedding anniversary!”

“I bought all the ingredients, so you can go home and bake a cake for Steven. He’ll be thrilled!”

Watching her animated expression, I felt a wave of disorientation. I grabbed my phone and stared at the date: 2024.

I was reborn!

On this day in my past life, we were out shopping, preparing to celebrate my first wedding anniversary with Steven. But my chronic stomach condition flared up, and the pain was so intense that I collapsed on the street and was rushed to the hospital.

The hospital called Steven, but he never showed up.

At the time, I told myself he was busy and tried to be understanding. I went home and baked his cake with a hopeful heart, but after waiting all night, I was still alone.

I took a deep breath, my eyes hardening with resolve.

This time, I refuse to be the desperate one chasing after him. Let Steven be the one to grovel for a change.
