I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra) novel Chapter 112

Myron opened his mouth to speak, but I cut him off, my voice sharp. “What’s that supposed to mean? I can’t be a designer?”

Myron silently closed his mouth again.

Steven scoffed. “If a top-tier designer acts as frivolously as you, giggling with another man in a private office, the company would go bankrupt. Mr. Taylor isn't that foolish.”

He hadn't even seen my work. How could he judge me like that? Just because I had a brief conversation with Jacob? It was bizarre. His expression was neutral, but I could swear he sounded like a jealous husband.

I laughed coldly. “If a company can go bankrupt because an employee has a two-minute conversation, then that company was already doomed. Don’t blame the employees. You should save that lecture for your own staff. Stop trying to manipulate other people’s employees. Mr. Taylor would never think that way, right?”

Myron’s expression became even more conflicted.

Steven’s face was a stony mask. “You’ve only been here a few days, and you’re already claiming your boss as ‘yours’? A married woman, so shamelessly trying to cozy up to her boss. What’s the matter, can’t find a new man, so you’ve started poaching from my associates?”

Myron looked genuinely pained now.

This bastard’s mouth was getting filthier by the day. I was just trying to do my job, using a common phrase, and suddenly I was hitting on his friends?

I shot to my feet, my teeth clenched. “Steven, are you looking for a fight?”

“Hey, hey, let’s not make a scene,” Myron quickly stepped between us, his usual playful demeanor gone, replaced by a desperate urge for self-preservation. “People are watching. Steven, you’re never like this in public.”

Steven’s dark eyes flickered to me, as if he was restraining himself. “What did you hire her as? A designer? An assistant designer?”

I was now thoroughly convinced he was targeting me. Every word was a thinly veiled insult.

I kept my cool. “My boss hasn’t said anything. Mr. Lancaster, you’re overstepping.”

Myron’s handsome face was a mess of emotions. Strangely, he shot Steven a sympathetic look, not me.

He clapped Steven on the shoulder. “Steven, you should probably stop talking. You’ll regret this later.”

Steven glanced at Myron, his expression grim. “I came here today to meet the designer. Where is she?”
