At his words, I saw the forced smile on Myron’s face crack.
I raised an eyebrow. Steven’s own brow furrowed. “You told me Somania started working for you. I came specifically to meet her. Where is she?”
Steven came here specifically for me? Why?
I was stunned, my mind immediately flashing to the collection of my work in his office. Did he want to meet Somania?
Then, I realized what was happening and shot a glare at Myron. We had a deal. He wasn't supposed to reveal my identity. Why was he betraying me again?
Myron caught my furious look and quickly fabricated a story. “Yes, I told you when Somania started, but you didn’t come to see her then, you were busy with other things. Now Somania… Somania has resigned. I can’t get in touch with her.”
The day I started? That was the day of Myron’s fashion show disaster, when I had to step in and save the day. Afterward, he treated Jacob and me to dinner. I remember hearing him on the phone talking about Somania right before I left for the hospital.
So the person on the other end of that call had been Steven all along.
My face registered my shock as I pieced everything together. I remembered that shortly after I arrived at the hospital that day, Steven showed up. That’s when he found out about Horace, and Uncle Julian mistook him for my lover, leading to a huge fight between us.
Something clicked into place. I looked at Steven, a wave of disbelief washing over me.
Steven had wanted to meet Somania, but instead of coming to the office, he had gone to the hospital to find me?
How was that possible? Knowing Steven, I would never come before something he cared about.
“Resigned?” Steven, oblivious to my thoughts, frowned. “Why?”
Myron glanced at me. “I don’t know the specifics. I didn’t ask.”
I flicked my hair back. “I’m not going anywhere.”
Steven’s eyes narrowed. “You still owe me three hundred thousand. If you don’t go, you can pay me back right now.”
I forced a smile. “We’re not divorced yet, so it’s marital property. I’m not paying. Go ahead and sue me if you have the guts.”
Steven’s voice turned to ice. “Myron, fire her.”
Damn it.
I finally snapped, glaring at him. “Steven, what is wrong with you? You look down on me, yet you insist on taking me with you? This company is full of designers. You’re not leaving until tomorrow. If you don’t like the ones here, why can’t you find someone else?”
