“I had to take a break for personal reasons,” I said honestly, “but I plan to continue designing. When will the manager be available? When can we start the interview?”
My question seemed to snap her back to reality. “Oh, right! Please wait a moment, Ma’am. I’ll call him right away. Our boss actually spoke with Mr. Lancaster today and said they would come meet you together.”
As she dialed, a name she mentioned sent a jolt of alarm through me.
Mr. Lancaster?
A terrible premonition began to form in my mind. After she hung up the phone, I asked, “Who is your boss?”
She smiled brightly. “Didn’t you see? His name is Myron Taylor. They’re on their way up now. It won’t be long.”
Myron!
My face fell.
He was Steven’s best friend, the young heir to the Taylor Group. They were as thick as thieves.
Unlike the serious, one-woman-man that was Steven, Myron was a notorious playboy. His business empire was built almost entirely on entertainment, nightlife, and leisure.
The number of girlfriends he’d had was probably in the hundreds, if not thousands.
And now I remembered why the address was so familiar. In my past life, Steven had mentioned investing in Myron’s company. I had come here a few times to bring him lunch, but it was so rare that the memory was faint.
I generally avoided people like Myron, so we had barely ever crossed paths.
The secretary was about to start chatting with me again, but I quickly cut her off.
“I’m so sorry, but I just remembered I have something incredibly urgent to take care of. We’ll have to reschedule.”
I stood up and made a beeline for the exit. The secretary trailed after me, calling my name, but I ignored her, desperate to avoid them. Just as the elevator doors slid open, I nearly collided with two tall, handsome men.
