I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra) novel Chapter 132

“Steven, who gave you permission to kiss me? You even dared to take off my clothes! What’s the matter? Your sweetheart is in the next room, but you want to sleep with me?”

I had been talking about divorce! Did he not understand the meaning of the word?

His handsome face was turned to the side from the force of the slap. He ran his tongue along the inside of his cheek before turning back to me, his composure seemingly restored. His voice, however, was raw. “We’re legally married. If I wanted to sleep with you, what could you do about it?”

“I’d report you for rape and have you thrown in jail,” I spat.

A flicker of exhaustion crossed his features, but his eyes remained cold. “You can call the police right now. By the time they get here, I’ll make sure the crime fits the charge. That way, you won’t have to explain anything. And then, if you still want a divorce, you can use that to sue me. You might even win.”

My heart skipped a beat. I fell silent, biting my lip. I didn’t dare call his bluff. Sometimes, Steven could be truly unhinged, and in this life, I wanted nothing more to do with him.

“What’s wrong? Not so brave now, are you?” he sneered, advancing on me. I backed away, but my leg hit the sofa, and I stumbled back into the cushions. He leaned over me, one hand braced on the back of the sofa, trapping me.

His eyes narrowed, his voice laced with a cold, threatening edge. “Zephyra, I don’t know what’s gotten into you, whether you’ve lost your mind or met someone else, but do not drag Verna into this. And do not bully her. If you really want a divorce, use your real reasons. Maybe then I’ll consider it.”

So that was it. He thought my accusations about his feelings for Verna were just a ploy to get a divorce. He thought I was bullying her to create a reason to leave him. That’s why he was warning me.

I looked up at him, my fingers digging into the sofa cushions. Suddenly, the fight drained out of me. I smiled. “Then listen closely. Our marriage was arranged by your grandfather. I have no feelings for you. I tried to play the part of a wife, but as you can see, even a dog wouldn’t love someone like you, and I’ve run out of patience.”

For a moment, I could have sworn I heard a hint of suppressed fury in his voice. But I knew it was just a man’s possessiveness. Even a dog is expected to be loyal.

“You don’t need to know,” I said coldly. “You told me not to involve Verna, so don’t you dare involve Horace. Don’t you dare bully him. You have your person to protect, and I have mine. Now, tell me, is that reason enough for you to consider a divorce?”

The silence stretched on. He looked down at me, his eyes growing darker, a cruel twist to his lips. “Don’t compare your crippled lover to Verna. He’s not worthy. And neither are you. You’re nothing but a pretty vase. I kept you around because you were nice to look at. Now you’re just a noisy nuisance, ready to be thrown away.”

“As soon as this deal is done, we’ll go back, and we’ll get a divorce. Immediately.”
