I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra) novel Chapter 18

Chapter 18

The atmosphere at the table instantly tensed. Martin’s expression soured, and he shot me several venomous glares but held his tongue.

“Alright, that’s enough. Let’s just eat before the food gets cold.”

Antonia and her mother exchanged a look, grinding their teeth in frustration, but they too fell silent.

I glanced at them all, a cold smile touching my lips, and picked up my fork and knife to continue. eating. I was the only one at the table who truly enjoyed the meal, savoring every bite. When you’re healthy, everything tastes delicious.

After dinner, I went upstairs to find a pair of shoes.

As I reached the top of the stairs, I overheard Janice whispering to Martin, “Does Zephyra seem… different to you? It’s like she’s a completely different person.”

I ignored them and went to my room, only to find that most of my belongings had been thrown out.

My expression didn’t change. After a long search, I finally found a shoebox tucked away in the back of a closet. Inside was a pair of old canvas sneakers. I slipped them on, ready to head home.

But as I turned, I saw Antonia standing in the doorway, her eyes dripping with mockery.

I had no intention of engaging, but she blocked my path, tilting her chin up in a clear challenge.

“Can I help you?” I asked.

“Of course, dear sister. I’m just here to show you some concern,” Antonia said, her voice a slow, syrupy drawl. “You seemed to find my two simple requests so difficult today. It seems life with the Lancaster family isn’t treating you so well. Doesn’t Steven dote on you at all?”

She leaned in. “Or is it that you’re the one who doesn’t want me working at his company?”

I stared at her. “What are you trying to say?”

“I’m saying, are you so afraid that Steven will fall for me–younger and more beautiful as I am–that you’d deliberately keep me out of his company?”

Seeing her feigned innocence and smug look, I couldn’t help but laugh. Steven’s heart belonged entirely to the woman he was obsessed with. Where on earth did Antonia get the confidence to think he would ever look her way?

“How about this,” I said. “I’ll call Steven right now, and you can ask him yourself. If he agrees to let you join the company, I won’t stand in your way.”
Antonia’s face lit up, and she agreed immediately.
