I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra) novel Chapter 36

Rachel let out a series of cold laughs. “Do you really think I’d believe that?”

I fell silent. She wrapped her arms around me, her eyes filled with pain. “Zephyra, if you’re hurting, you have to tell me. Don’t keep it bottled up. It kills me to see you like this.”

Honestly, I didn’t feel that hurt. When Steven kicked me out of the car, I was frustrated, but I had also gotten my revenge. He would never have a “housekeeper” as good as me again, no matter what tricks he tried to pull.

“I’m really fine. I won today, honestly. Don’t worry about it. You should get some sleep so you’re fresh for work tomorrow. I need to start looking for a job again, too.”

Rachel bit her lip, playing along with the change of subject. “It’s not like you lack the skills. If you just revealed your identity as ‘Somania,’ you wouldn’t have to look for a job. Every company in the city would be beating down my door tomorrow, offering you a seven-figure salary.”

It was a good idea, but I shook my head.

“Why not?” she asked, confused.

I looked down. “‘Somania’ was a name Horace gave me. If I posted on Twitter, he would definitely see it. I don’t want him to know that things aren’t going well for me.”

In this life, the person I felt I owed the most was Horace. He was living a quiet, healthy life abroad, and that was the best I could hope for.

Rachel looked at me, her bright eyes filled with a storm of unspoken emotions. In the end, she said nothing.

The next day, Rachel went to work, and I started my job hunt again, sending out résumés and going to interviews. My university was well-regarded, so I had a lot of interest. I rushed from one interview to the next, surviving on a few sips of water. Soon, a sharp, violent pain stabbed at my stomach.

I clutched my abdomen as a cold sweat broke out on my forehead. The agony of my past life’s stomach cancer seemed to wash over me again, a terrifying, debilitating memory. The pain was so intense that I passed out.

When I opened my eyes, I was in a hospital bed. A familiar low voice was speaking nearby.

I looked over and saw the handsome face from the day before, my vision still blurry. “Jacob?” It was the sweet, terrible driver, my fellow designer.
