I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra) novel Chapter 61

That was impossible. I wasn’t the one Steven loved, so it didn’t matter what I did; he would still divorce me. It was just a matter of time.

I didn’t answer, focusing on my food instead. "Let's just eat."

Seeing he couldn't get a conversation out of me, Myron turned his half-smiling gaze to Jacob. "You're a good-looking kid. Got a girlfriend?"

Jacob, looking terrified of causing more trouble, quickly replied, "I do, yes."

"Oh?" Myron arched a perfectly shaped eyebrow, his smile widening. "Good. This is my friend's wife, and she's your new boss. Make sure you keep a respectable distance, so your girlfriend doesn't get the wrong idea."

I was speechless. Myron and Steven really were cut from the same cloth. Did they think a man and a woman couldn't just be friends? Or in our case, two wronged souls who could only commiserate with each other?

I couldn't be bothered to explain, but Jacob was already waving his hands frantically. "Oh, no, that won't happen! My girlfriend and I are very solid. She's about to go abroad to pursue her dream, but we promised each other we'd never give up. She wouldn't misunderstand."

Myron looked surprised. "Abroad? When?"

"It was supposed to be in three days, but the forecast called for a huge storm, so she rebooked for tomorrow."

Tomorrow?

The thought struck me. Time was flying by. After tomorrow, Steven would finally realize how much he cared for Verna. He’d move heaven and earth to chase after her, determined to win her back by any means necessary.

Myron nodded, and having warned Jacob off, he turned his attention back to me.

"He might have a pretty face, but he’s nothing compared to Steven," he said, lowering his voice. "Besides, when a woman chooses a man, what matters is capability. Steven is a titan in the business world. He's mature, handsome... This kid has nothing on my friend except for being a little younger. Don't you go making a foolish mistake."

I finally lost my patience and kicked him under the table. "What is with you? Did someone cheat on you once? Why is that the only thing on your mind?"

But I quickly dismissed the thought. Why would Steven be in a bad mood? With me out of his hair, he was free to see Verna whenever he wanted. He should be on top of the world.

Myron was still talking. "No, can't. I'm busy. I'm with a brilliant designer right now. Somania, you know her? The one you've been looking for."

I froze.

I had started using a new professional name specifically to keep people from finding out I was Somania.

That asshole Myron! He promised he'd keep my secret, and then he blabbed it to the first person who called.

Jacob’s head snapped up, his eyes wide with a mixture of disbelief and excitement. He whispered, "Zephyra, you're the famous Somania?"

I gave him a weak smile and pressed a finger to my lips, signaling for him to be quiet. It wasn't that big of a deal. The industry was full of rising stars, and new talent emerged every year. I had just become famous at a young age, so I got a bit more attention. But after a year away, my skills had definitely gotten rusty.
