"Zephyra. Why are you hiding from me?"
I froze, then yanked my arm free and shot him a cold glare. "Who's hiding? I didn't even see you. What do you want?"
Steven’s brow furrowed slightly, his dark, intense eyes fixed on me. "Your uncle is in the hospital. Why didn't you tell me?"
My heart clenched, and my face tightened. "How did you know? I've never mentioned an uncle to you."
His expression remained unreadable. "It wasn't hard to find out."
I pressed my lips together, my eyes filled with annoyance. "It was Myron, wasn't it?"
Myron was the only one who had met Uncle Julian. I had specifically told him not to mention it to Steven, but that big mouth had gone and blabbed anyway. I'd have to give him a piece of my mind tomorrow. But when did Myron even talk to him? Could it be that the person on the phone earlier was actually Steven? I dismissed the thought; the man on the phone was supposedly going to meet a designer.
Steven didn't answer my question. He just stared at me. "The day we were supposed to sign the divorce papers... you didn't show up because of your uncle?"
There was no point in hiding it now. It wasn't that I'd intended to keep it a secret, but I'd never talked about Uncle Julian before and was afraid any explanation would just sound like another excuse to him. "Yes. He had a sudden medical emergency, so I couldn't make it."
Steven’s gaze shifted to Horace, his critical eyes sweeping over him from head to toe. Then he looked back at me, his voice cold and hard. "Who is he?"
Before I could reply, Horace had already crossed the distance between us, his eyes locked on Steven. "My name is Horace. I'm a good friend of Zephyra's. I never expected to run into the famous Mr. Lancaster here. It's a pleasure."
Horace moved to stand beside me, his gaze unwavering as he extended a hand toward Steven.
Steven’s face turned to stone. I saw his dark eyes narrow dangerously. "Horace," he said, ignoring the offered hand and turning his cold gaze on me. "Zephyra, have you been with him this whole time?"
