I Welcome Your Rejection: Angel Kings’ Proud Mate novel Chapter 37

Angel Ronen’s Pov

“Are you sure she agreed to have us nurse her wounds? It sounds like a miracle that people like us do not deserve,” I say to Tiras.

I was elated by the news when he told us last night, we crave Ira’s forgiveness above all worldly things. But some things doesn’t just happen overnight. Ira’s heart was devastated by her father’s death on top of all the horrors we had put her through. It’s not hopelessness that makes me doubt that she has forgiven us so soon, it’s just not how real things happen.

“My ears heard her perfectly well. She also agreed to meet our council and give us a second chance. I never said we deserve it now, but I will gladly take it,” Tiras answers.

“Sounds to me like we should be more worried about mental health. Who knows what happens when a brain has been through too much,” Adon says. “Besides, what doctor’s knowledge do we have to be able to actually nurse her wounds anyways? Couldn’t you have negotiated something that doesn’t require actual expertise?” he complains.

“I chose the thing that would bring us closer to her. Unless you’re opposed to learning a little skill from our doctors to nurse Ira’s wounds. She needs to actually believe that we care,” Tiras argues.

It’s a good opportunity to create a new bond with her. But is she still feeling like being so close to us after resting her stressed mind?

A loud knock interrupts our conversation, the kind that we rarely hear on the door of our chambers. What can be so urgent that any of our officials or servant would have the guts to knock on our door this early?

“Come in,” I say and Adon glances at me questioningly.

Oh, he hasn’t brushed his hair yet. But it’s probably the servants that does it for him that are knocking. Of course they do not come this early.

The door opens and the servants we appointed to look after Ira rushes in, looking like they have run from an attack. They do not forget to bow and keep their gazes on the floor, which gives me hope that it is not another dragon attack.

“Your majesties… we are afraid that the human you brought back has gone missing. She is not in her room or anywhere in the palace,” one of the servants reports.

It was a wonderful morning until they came in. How can we be living through this shock again? Losing Ira was already my biggest fear. I was hoping that life would spare me the pain. But how can she have just disappeared living in our well guarded palace?

“Have you searched every building? She has legs to move. So you cannot declare her missing just because she isn’t in her room,” Tiras reprimands, his voice already hoarse with worry.

“We have searched every corner of this palace with the help of several officials, your majesty. No one claims to have seen her, “the anxious servant answers.

Ira cannot have left the palace on her own, not with all the guards around the palace and at the gates. Can someone have kidnapped her? The thought alone makes my heart pound harder.

“If it’s the witch who took Ira we must act fast before she drains her blood,” Tiras warns.

I worry that it might already be too late. Because we put too much confidence in the safety of our palace.

“We cannot use our soldiers to pursue whoever kidnapped our mate. We do not want more people knowing about her special blood as that would put her life in greater danger. We must go after the witch ourselves,” I say.

“Seriously? What would be more conspicuous than three Kings traveling without an entourage?” Tiras scoffs.

“Then we will dress like commoners,” I answer.

Adon looks at me with disapproving eyes. “Is that really the only way?”

“If you really want to save Ira alive, then yes. It’s the only way,” I answer.
