Ira’s Pov
I watch Linda make great effort in carrying every needed item as the angel Kings, Aruin and Thumas fixes the Sincarion’s old boat by the seashore. A decision was made to pass by the mysterious Valley Of Good And Bad Counsel before making our way to witchelms. The valley is an Island a little far into the sea. And the angel kings cannot carry all of us.
Linda took off her coat to reveal the tight top beneath. The thin fabric enhances the appearance of her small curves in a seductive manner.
She leans too close to angel Adon as she hands him a nail and squats by his side as he hammers it into the wood, watching him do so intently like it’s a rare phenomenon.
It is a rare phenomena indeed, because I am sure those refined kings have never had to fix anything themselves, not even their own hair. It will be a miracle if we do not sink.
Linda moves from King Adon’s sude to King Tiras to hand over a knife to peel off some of the wood. She could choose to set the tools at one place and everyone would reach for them easily, but she is carrying them all in her hands, moving around serving them like food while getting in the personal spaces of the gorgeous kings. Does she really think she is helping? When she finally sets down the tools she takes a seat at the front end of the boat and starts stretching. Her hands cups her breasts while pretending to fix the straps of her tight top.
It’s strange because I thought Lior alone was the target of her desperate heart. He is also her mate. So why is she flirting with the men that have banished him from their kingdom?
I am surprised to see that none of the kings is watching her even as she flicks her long hair and pulls the hem of her top a little up. Aruin gazes at her briefly with an amused smile then carries on with the work. Even he notices that she is out of her mind.
I hear footsteps behind me and look back to see Lior approaching. “She believes that if she can get the attention of one of the kings I will become jealous and want her for myself,” he says. “Unfortunately for her she doesn’t have the brains to impress them. Neither is her body irresistible.”
I think she might succeed if she keeps up the efforts. The mighty kings may desire a reputable queen but being their queen isn’t what she seeks, is it? They definitely wouldn’t mind bedding a commoner woman just for fun while waiting to find another perfect queen. But will Lior feel envious or disgusted by Linda after she has slept with other men?
“Would you want her if the kings get interested in her company?” I question.
“I have known them for years and they have never touched a commoner woman. Even the prettiest of servant girls couldn’t get them to stare. It’s like commoner blood repels them,” he answers. “She will have to find something extremely important to entice them to grant her the kind attention she wants. But we both know she has nothing important in her head or body,” he adds with a laugh.
Sounds like she actually needs to prove that she is more than a head and body craving their attention. I am realizing men want more than just a loving, honest woman. They want something they cannot get from another. I am sure Linda has great brains because she is a wonderful doctor. They only despise her because they can use her easily, like a dog.
I have not had the best luck in getting honest respect either, but I have learned not to beg too desperately for anyone’s affection. People become proud and think you would be nothing without them.
“Linda loves you more than some mothers love their children. It’s not fair to talk about her like that,” I say.
“You’re too kind even to people that don’t really deserve it. She only treated your wounds because I asked her to. She used to despise humans just like the angel Kings did, until I brought you to my house and she had to treat you to get my attention,” he defends. “I am letting her be part of this quest because we can use her, for anything.”
I am quiet for a long moment, considering if that is not a cruel act. Using her for anything when we know that he does not want her would be utterly selfish and brutal. I do not however want to intervene in their relationship. Linda hates me and wouldn’t listen to my advice.
“I have a hard time believing that the great White Angel is the true father of the angel kings. They have been evil towards you. How can they really be his offsprings?” Lior expresses.
I too was surprised by the Sincarion’s claim, but again, who ever said that sons must be the same as their father in every way? None of us has met the white angel either and confirmed that he isn’t cruel sometimes. We only know that his brother Luminis is worse.
By mistake? He isn’t talking about the angel kings, is he?
“I forgot to tell you, your kings meant what they said yesterday. They do love you, genuinely,” he says.
That’s impossible. He probably has no idea what love is. It’s not just a word. It’s a feeling.
“There is a difference between loving someone and wanting something they have,” I remind.
“I only judge the words people utter. They said they love you. They never said anything about your blood. Everything they said was true,” he points. “That however doesn’t mean you have to love them back if they are not good enough.”
“If they care about me, it’s a lot less than they cared about their queen. I am not as valuable to them as she was. You should have seen the tribute they sent to her father. It was the talk of kingdoms for weeks. But they give me illusions as gifts after trying to kill me and humiliating me in every way possible,” I bitterly express.
“I do not have the power to tell how much they love you. I can however confirm that their desire to impress you was real. I wish I can lie about it because I like you too. But the ability to lie is a gift that my kind was denied,” he confesses.
The Sincarion likes me? What am I suddenly doing right?
