Irresistible Boss Succumbing to Your Touch (Maria Anita) novel Chapter 545

Manuela’s POV

Between talking with Cam, who told me more about his mother, and Flavian explaining about each object found in the storage unit belonging to Rose, the maid who died or was killed, the morning flew by. Before starting to read the diary, I decided to prepare lunch and make the minced meat with mashed potatoes that was my father's favorite dish. Olivia helped me and took care of dessert. We were spoiling my father.

"Daughter, your grandmother taught you well, you cook just as well as she did," my father smiled at me after lunch. "And you, Olivia, make the best flan in the world."

Olivia was gloating and we were laughing. It was a moment of peace amid the chaos that had overtaken us. Flavian's phone rang and he left the table to answer it, taking his glass of juice with him.

The sound of the glass shattering in the living room was enough to draw my attention to Flavian standing in the middle of the room with the glass shattered on the floor. I got up and hurried to him, arriving in time to hear what he was saying.

"Send me a copy of that file, please, and call me after you talk to that woman," Flavian spoke in an ice-cold voice and hung up the phone.

I looked at his face and saw his eyes welling up with tears. I held his arm and he looked at me, seeming to only then notice I was there.

"What happened?" I asked softly.

"I need a minute." He started to bend down to pick up the pieces of the broken glass, but I held him back.

"I'll take care of this." He looked at me and just nodded before walking away. Whatever it was, it wasn't good.

I gathered the glass shards and cleaned the living room floor. Olivia and Cam had already cleared the table and were tidying up the kitchen, working in perfect sync - one washing while the other dried and put away, as they chatted and joked with each other. My father sat in the living room and Olivia told me to stay with him. I sat beside him and finally picked up the diary to read.

With each turned page and every revelation contained within, I felt more horror towards this woman who I wasn't sure was my mother or not. In truth, my only reason for wanting to be Rita's daughter was that a small part of me still wished to share the Blanco DNA. If it weren't for that, if it weren't for my father and Cam, I would have been relieved not to be that woman's daughter.

I had just reached the part about the day when Cam's mother died. Reading what was written there was horrible - it was tragic, sad, cold, and even frightening how that woman enjoyed the pain she caused.

In the diary, she wrote that my father left with Cam before sunrise and they would be gone all day. She took advantage of this and put the medicine in the juice, which she gave to the poor woman to drink. She described the pain the woman began feeling just hours after taking the medicine. She even had the audacity to complain about having to clean up the blood the woman lost after going into labor.

It was written there that she called Rita, and it took more than an hour for this supposed midwife to arrive, but the woman didn't even look like a midwife - she was rough-looking and arrived with her nose in the air, carrying a large bag. She took the woman to the bedroom and ordered Rose to leave. She wrote that Cam's mother's features were distorted with pain as she screamed for help in total desperation, and that the woman's screams grew increasingly louder and more desperate until, in the last one, she heard a baby's cry that quickly stopped.
