Back To Work Part I
The following Monday, Juniper entered the lobby of Phineas‘ company and was purposefully walking towards the elevators when her name was called out.
She looked over her shoulder and nearly punched the air in frustration as she noted Kyst running towards her.
“What the hell are you doing here?”
“I’ve been watching for you. Denise texted me to let me know you were back in the country. She’s been listening in on her father’s conversations to give me the head’s up. Can we talk?”
“Fuck no.”
“Juniper, please?”
“No. In fact, I’m hoping, more than anything, I get my divorce papers in my hand by end of day. My father–in–law was hoping to deliver them to me soon.” She looked for the security guard and noted with fury how busy they were dealing with Denise who was demanding to see Phineas. She was the distraction so Kyst could approach her.
“You’re all tanned up.”
“Yes. I was on vacation.” She raised her hand and waved to a
security agent who was outside the building who suddenly was running in their direction as he realized looking through the glass windows of the front lobby who cornered her.
“While I’m here struggling and missing you, you went on vacation? With him?”
“With them, not him. Get it through your head, Kyst. I’m with all three of them.”
“How? How could you?”
“Easily. They love me. I love them. They took me on vacation.”
“You can’t love them already. You barely fucking know them.” Kyst snapped at her.
She raised an eyebrow at his assertation. “You don’t get to tell me how my heart responds to the men in my life.”
“I get it. You’re getting back at me for cheating. This though? Do you actually think they care for you? You’re a distraction, a plaything for them to use to mock Denise and hurt me for sleeping with his wife.”
She laughed loudly at his accusation and held her hand up at the security team rushing at them. In doing so, Kyst’s eyes flashed to her hand where the giant diamond on her hand 276 caught the light.
“What the fuck is that?”
“Yeah, he did.” One of the agents snorted. “The boss knows he’s here by the way. The bitch too,” he shrugged, “and is on his way down.”
“Kyst, even if I wanted to believe you were feeling the doctors were controlling when you could use your dick to fuck,” she rolled her eyes as the agents snickered, “we were only dealing with the doctor for the last seven or eight months of our marriage. You were cheating on me for years. You fucked that bitch from high school.”
“That was for work.”
“Yeah you hooker!” she mocked him derisively. “Your boss was handing out bonuses for fucking clients.”
“I was putting the money away for a house, Juniper. You were always so fucking tight with our money I wanted to plan a surprise for you. I wanted to give it all to you in a lump sum when the baby was finally born. One of the girls at my office,” he tried to explain, “her husband bought her a car as a push present. I thought we could use the money to get a house, but I wanted it to be a surprise.”
“You expect me to believe it?”
“Yes! I was doing it for us, Juniper. I was doing it for our family. Yeah, I slept with the skank because she found out what I was doing for the boss and threatened to tell you, but I knew you wouldn’t approve of me flirting with women for contracts. I wanted the money. I was doing it for our family.”
“And the other women you fucked, not just flirted with? Was that for my benefit too?” She was aware there was a small group hanging onto Kyst’s every word.
“Yes. I did it all for you, for us, for our family.”
She stared at him for a beat and then did what any other rational person would do. She threw her head back and laughed in his face.
