Eavesdroppers Part I
Phineas pushed the button for his office floor, and she frowned.
“No. I need to go to my desk.”
“Not until I am confident that security has the situation downstairs in hand.” He told her with a shrug, “you can call Maxine from my office and let her know you’re running a few minutes behind, but we need this sorted. I also want to know why the fuck Scotty was telling Denise my itinerary.”
She huffed with annoyance as the elevator bypassed the floor she usually worked at. “Day one and I’m already being pulled into your office.”
“You’re coming up for security, not sex, Juniper.”
“Well, I would hope not for sex.” She shot him an annoyed glance, “after the way the three of you pushed me to my limits last night, I’m putting a moratorium on sex anywhere but at home.”
“What? Why?” he shot her an incredulous look.
“Because my body needs downtime, Perez!” she snapped at him. “I’m surprised I am able to sit.”

He gave her a concerned glance, “are you sore? I mean, are you in pain, Juniper?”
“No. I’m more uncomfortable and every step is reminding me of where two of you were at the same time last night.”
“Are you hurt though? You didn’t tell us we were hurting you last night. If you’re hurt,” he let his voice trail off as the doors to the elevator opened. He pulled her towards his office, his face worried as he motioned at Janice, “hold my calls for thirty minutes. Denise was downstairs and Kyst got past security. I need to get this sorted to make sure we’re all safe.”
“Should I call your head of security, Phineas?” Janice asked with concern.
“Yes.” He frowned at her, “my grandfather pushed his birthday party until this coming Saturday night. Make sure the security there is tripled. I’m not going to have that idiot crashing it.”
“Which idiot sir?”
“I don’t know, pick one. Kyst, Denise, Kyst’s father, any of Kyst’s lovers.” He threw his hands into the air as he pulled Juniper into his office angrily. “Why the fuck are they still sticking around? We were gone ten days. You would think it would have been time enough for that fool to understand you were done with him.”

“Phineas, you’re all over the place,” she watched him as he flung himself into his seat behind his desk. “Take a breath.”
“I’ll breathe when I get this shit sorted.” He pulled his cell phone and dialed out a number.
Juniper watched him as he tossed the phone on the desk and watched it ringing. When a man answered Phineas growled furiously.
“Scotty, make it make sense to me. Why the fuck would you tell your daughter I am back in the country and due at work this morning? She came here trying to get me to meet with her.”
“Oh shit, I’m sorry, Phineas. I didn’t even know she was at our house. Haven let her come to the house to her old bedroom to collect some of her belongings. Haven is telling her to sell them on some app online to raise some cash. She has a walk–in closet the size of a bus. If she was to sell off her wardrobe, she might earn enough money to pay her legal fees. One of her friends paid her bail. I’m refusing to fund her at all.”

“Yes.”
“Do you know what precinct?”
“No but I can find out.”
“I only want to know so I can let Haven know. I’m not helping her. I understood part of her bail was to not be anywhere near you. The fact she was arrested because she was coming at you and was in possession of a weapon doesn’t bode well for her. She needs psychiatric help and some serious jail time.”
Juniper felt sorry for Scotty as he grumbled angrily.
“Your father said you got engaged while you were away. I hope Denise doesn’t scare Juniper off, Phineas. She seems a really lovely woman and I hope for your sake, you can get past whatever fuckery this is and find happiness with her, Phineas.”
“Juniper knows this isn’t our fault. Denise, however, tipped off Kyst about Juniper’s whereabouts and he cornered her today in the lobby. He’s been escorted off the premises, but he was unhinged.”
“Well, I didn’t even know they were still communicating because I’m not even talking to her. She was here to get her clothes; Haven allowed her to eat dinner with us and then sent her on her way. I ate quick and then went to my office. I just4:28 576
can’t even look at her right now. Knowing she brought a taser to your workplace is the last straw for me. I’m sorry, Phineas. I’ll let Haven know and I do hope you forgive me.” “I forgive you but for the love of God, Scotty, keep her away from me. Stop talking about me anywhere near her.”
“Understood.”
