Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 131

Two weeks.

Clive had only given her one. Now, two weeks later, whatever chance she’d had was long gone.

“What if I say no?” Amelia asked, her tone flat and unmoving.

“Kristen, stop wasting your breath on her,” Lena snapped, already reaching for her phone to call security.

Kristen shot Lena a warning look. “Lena, that’s enough. Amelia is Mrs. Salmeron. You should show her some respect.”

Amelia watched them, her expression unreadable as the two put on their little show.

She pulled out her phone. “I’ll call Clive and let him say it himself.”

Kristen just smiled, totally unfazed. “Go ahead, Amelia.”

By now, plenty of people from the second research division had wandered back, eager to watch the drama unfold. All eyes were glued to Amelia as she dialed, everyone silently sizing up the situation.

Some were just here for the spectacle, but others were watching to see where Clive’s true loyalty lay—his wife, or his secretary.

Kristen had been Clive’s favorite at the office for years, but she was still just the secretary. Amelia was his wife—the one with the ring and the marriage certificate.

If Clive still cared about his wife, maybe it was time for everyone to rethink whose side they were on.

Amelia called Clive. The room went so quiet, you could hear a pin drop. The ringing echoed over and over, dragging out the suspense.

She waited nearly a full minute, but Clive never picked up.

Finally, a cold automated voice broke the silence: “The number you’ve dialed is currently unavailable. Please try again later.”

Lena snorted, unable to hide her glee. “Wow, Ms. Sadinton, looks like Mr. Salmeron doesn’t even take calls from his own wife.”

The onlookers exchanged looks—they all understood now.

Clive’s double standards couldn’t be clearer. Amelia, the official Mrs. Salmeron, meant a whole lot less to him than Kristen.

Everyone felt they’d picked the right team. In just a few more days, Amelia would probably be out for good.

“Clive, here’s the deal,” Kristen said, switching to speaker and holding the phone out for everyone—including Amelia—to hear. “This morning in the car, I asked if I could borrow the lab equipment for Division Two. But Amelia doesn’t seem to believe me. She wants to hear it from you herself.”

This morning in the car... That said everything. Everyone knew now Kristen had come to work with Clive.

There was a pause, then Clive spoke again, his usually warm voice tinged with cold impatience.

“Is something this minor really worth an official announcement?”
