Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 185

Everyone treated Kristen with extra kindness these days, almost like she was already the boss’s wife.

“We’re just trying to figure out who left this dessert in the fridge,” one of the staff called out as the day was winding down. “It’s almost closing time and nobody’s touched it. If it stays here till tomorrow, it’ll probably go bad.”

Kristen recognized the containers right away. They were from the kitchen at Clive’s house. She’d been there so many times, she could probably list every piece of tableware by heart.

The desserts—fruit parfait and tapioca pudding—were Penny and Timmy’s favorites. Kristen figured the housekeeper must have made them, sent them over for the kids, and just stashed them in the fridge for now.

“They’re mine,” Kristen said, grabbing the two containers without hesitation.

Just then, a cheerful little voice rang out. “Momma Kristen!”

Penny had been getting bored inside and kept pestering her dad, asking when Momma Kristen was coming. He’d said she was probably busy, so Penny decided to wait out here for her instead. She never expected to spot her favorite person the second she stepped outside.

Penny dashed over and threw herself into Kristen’s arms, hugging her tight.

Two staff members nearby shot each other a look, both of them silently smirking. Salmeron’s daughter was calling Kristen “Momma” right out in the open now…

“Momma Kristen, did you make these for me and Timmy?” Penny’s eyes were wide with excitement when she spotted the desserts.

Kristen gently tapped her nose, not saying yes or no. “I knew my little snack monster would be hungry by now.”

“It’s obvious. When Penny first started calling her ‘Momma Kristen’ in public, Salmeron always corrected her. Now he doesn’t say a word.”

The first staffer’s tone softened. “I do feel bad for Amelia though. She nearly died having those kids, ended up in a coma, and now she’s finally awake… only for her kids to call the other woman ‘Mom’…”

She was still sighing when her coworker suddenly nudged her, eyes wide with panic. She looked up, confused, and saw Amelia step out of the elevator right in front of them.

Her face drained of color.

“Oh—Mrs. Salmeron…”
