Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 205

Amelia stood at the curb, waiting for a cab.

A black Mercedes sat at the intersection, engine humming, just a few yards away.

Behind the wheel, Cameron gripped the steering wheel with one hand, his gaze sharp and cold as he watched Amelia. He shot another look in the direction Francisco had just gone, his eyes turning even colder, almost dangerous.

He knew Francisco. Everyone did—he was Ryan’s assistant.

But since when did Amelia know him?

And why was she meeting him here, in the middle of the day, during lunch?

Cameron glanced up at the WestMed headquarters. Suddenly, it all made sense.

Kristen had mentioned Amelia was working on the same research project she was. Both of them had passed WestMed’s first round of review. Tomorrow morning, Amelia and Kristen were supposed to present their proposals to Ryan, who would pick just one team to partner with.

Cameron narrowed his eyes, a chill settling over his face.

So this was Amelia’s plan—scared of losing to Kristen, she was trying to get an inside track by buttering up Ryan’s assistant. Unbelievable. But honestly, it was just like her—shameless and sneaky. He’d underestimated her. Who would’ve thought she’d be able to cozy up to Francisco?

The light turned green.

Cameron remembered what Clive had told him that morning—Amelia had supposedly tried to run Kristen off the road. The anger he’d been holding back boiled over.

Without a second thought, he slammed his foot on the gas. The Mercedes surged forward, speeding straight for Amelia standing on the sidewalk.

Amelia had just spotted a cab across the street and was waving to get its attention. Suddenly, out of the corner of her eye, she saw the black Mercedes racing toward her, wild and out of control, like it was coming for her on purpose.

Her heart jumped into her throat. Instinct took over—she stumbled back, her foot landing on a stone, and she went down hard.

Cameron hesitated. He was sure he hadn’t hit her—he’d only wanted to scare her, that was all, to make her think twice before crossing Kristen again. But Amelia looked so convincing, and she was still technically Clive’s wife. If she really got hurt, there’d be hell to pay.

With a frustrated sigh, he got out and walked over.

He knelt down beside her. The second he was close, Amelia’s pained look vanished. Her eyes turned cold, hard as steel. Before he could react, she drew back and slapped him, hard.

The sound cracked through the air.

She’d hit him so hard her own hand was stinging.

Amelia glared at him, pushing herself upright despite the pain in her ankle. She spoke slowly, every word crisp and clear.

“Now… that’s enough.”
