Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 277

“Yes…”

Kristen’s answer was all Clive needed to finally relax.

“When it’s ready, just bring the contract to my office,” he said. “I’ll have the PR team make a formal announcement.”

“Alright.”

Clive checked his watch. “Aiden should be here soon. Go get changed.”

“Okay, Mr. Salmeron.”

Kristen headed back to the master bedroom and closed the door behind her. She grabbed her phone from the charger and opened her email. Right at the top was a new message from West Medicine.

Ms. Watts, we regret to inform you that your proposal did not pass our internal review…

Her heart dropped. West Medicine turned her down. Did that mean they picked Amelia? That conniving woman?

Kristen’s grip tightened until her hand hurt, her eyes darting around in panic.

No way. She had to fix this before Clive found out she’d lost the deal. She needed a backup plan. Fast.

One person popped into her mind.

Desperate, she dialed Will. As soon as he answered, Kristen put on her most helpless, tearful voice. “Will, I honestly don’t know who else to turn to. Please, you have to help me…”

Ten minutes later, Kristen had calmed down, fixed her hair, and walked downstairs to meet Clive. They headed outside together.

Aiden was already waiting by the car.

As soon as he saw Kristen and Clive walking out side by side, Aiden’s eyes nearly popped out of his head. Their arms were so close they almost looked linked, just a breath away from holding hands.

If Mrs. Salmeron saw this, it would break her heart.

Wait a minute—where was Mrs. Salmeron? Did Kristen chase her off?

Aiden quickly forced his face into a neutral mask before they got closer.

Clive, ever the gentleman, opened the back door for Kristen, and they both slid into the back seat.

Kristen leaned forward, resting her hand on the back of Aiden’s seat. “Thanks for picking us up, Aiden.”

Aiden forced a polite smile. “No trouble at all.”

Trouble was his whole job these days.

Clive sat beside Kristen, legs crossed, head lowered as he scrolled through his phone.

His notifications were blowing up.

That video from last night—the bar fight—had gone viral. He was all over social media.

Clive scrolled through the dozens of messages, but not a single one was from Amelia.

His face darkened.

There was no way Amelia didn’t know what kind of mess he was in. He only got into the fight because of her, after all.

“I need to go,” he said, cutting Cameron off before he could say more. Without waiting for a reply, he dialed his assistant’s office.

The assistant’s team always clocked in half an hour before everyone else.

The call picked up immediately.

“Mr. Salmeron.”

Clive’s tone was icy. “Check if Amelia’s in the research department.”

If she wasn’t at home, work was the only other place she’d go.

Kristen, sitting beside him, glanced his way, eyes unreadable.

On the other end, the assistant hesitated. “Mr. Salmeron, I don’t think she’s here… Ms. Sadinton isn’t in today.”

Clive’s frown deepened. “What do you mean?”

The assistant had just noticed the resignation letter Amelia left on the desk. He double-checked it, then reported, “Ms. Sadinton… she resigned.”

Clive, who had been leaning back, suddenly sat bolt upright, his voice rising. “What did you say?!”

She actually quit?

She hadn’t come home, wasn’t at work—where could Amelia be?

A terrifying thought hit him. Was she with Will right now?
