Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 279

Will was the kind of tech star everyone in the industry was talking about lately. Francisco had bumped into him plenty of times at tech forums, so they were more than just acquaintances.

Will was about to head back into the café to help Amelia with breakfast when a familiar voice called out behind him. He turned around, surprised to see Francisco walking his way.

“Francisco, you—”

Before Will could finish, Francisco clutched his chest and staggered dramatically into his arms.

“Oh—my heart!” Francisco gasped, grabbing Will. “Mr. Dillion! I think I’m having a heart attack. Please, you have to get me to a hospital. Right now!”

Will just stood there, stunned by the sudden scene.

“Francisco, since when do you have heart problems? You never mentioned it before.”

Not that Will could remember. Honestly, he was just finding out now.

Francisco didn’t even try to explain, just kept his hand pressed to his chest, groaning louder.

“Mr. Dillion, please, hurry! I can’t breathe—I’m dying!”

Will stared at him, speechless.

He glanced back at the café, which was starting to fill up. Amelia was busy carrying plates of dumplings to customers and calling back for more meat buns from the kitchen.

Then Will looked at Francisco, who looked like he might actually faint at any second. With no other choice, he hefted Francisco’s arm over his shoulder and helped him to the car.

Back inside, Amelia had just set their breakfast on the table when she realized Will was gone.

Confused, she checked her phone and saw a voice message from him.

“Amelia, something urgent’s come up—someone’s life is literally at stake. I have to run. Let’s do breakfast tomorrow.”

He sounded seriously rushed.

With something like that going on, Amelia couldn’t be upset.

“Okay, take care of it,” she replied.

She looked at the big, steaming bowl of beef noodles in front of her, a little lost. There was no way she could finish all of this alone.

Just then, her phone rang. Unknown number. She hesitated, then picked up.

“Hello? Who is this?”

A man’s voice came through, low and smooth, with a lazy sort of charm that sent a strange shiver through her.

“It’s Ryan.”

Starting today, Ryan was her new big boss and main client.

She ended the call and waved over a server. “Hi, could you pack up this beef noodle soup to go? And can you add extra beef, please?”

Meanwhile, over at Cloudcrest.

Clive looked like he was about to explode the whole way up to the office. As soon as he got out of the car, he managed to keep his voice steady as he turned to Kristen.

“When the West Medicine contract gets here, bring it to my office.”

He didn’t wait for an answer, just strode straight to his private elevator, leaving Kristen to trail behind.

On his desk was Amelia’s resignation letter, exactly where he’d told them to put it.

Clive’s face got even darker as he read through it for the third time. She’d signed and stamped everything. But under “reason for leaving,” she’d actually written: “Chronic stomach issues—can’t handle seeing a cheater and his mistress every day.”

Clive was so furious, he tore the letter to shreds.

“Amelia, if you’re so bold, then don’t you ever dare come crawling back!”

“Mr. Salmeron…” Aiden knocked nervously, peeking through the door to see shredded paper all over the floor and Clive looking ready to break something. “There’s someone here to see you…”

“I don’t care who it is. Tell them to come back another day!” Clive barked, totally out of patience.

Aiden braced himself. “Sir, you really need to take this meeting. It’s Mrs. Salmeron’s divorce lawyer—Andrew. He’s here to discuss the divorce settlement with you.”
