Waterford Estate
Clive’s driver pulled up right in front of Kristen’s house.
“Thank you,” Kristen said, flashing a polite smile. She stepped out, waited for the car to pull away, and then her whole face changed in an instant.
She stormed inside, her anger written all over her.
The living room was huge and gorgeous, filled with antiques behind glass—every piece worth more than most people’s cars.
Bianca appeared from the prayer room next door, a string of rosewood beads wrapped around her hand. The second she caught sight of Kristen’s mood, she signaled for a maid to bring over a bowl of bird’s nest soup from the kitchen.
Kristen didn’t even glance at it. “You can all leave,” she said sharply.
The staff disappeared, and only Kristen and Bianca were left in the room. Kristen’s expression tightened.
“Mom, I think Amelia already knows I’m your daughter,” she blurted out.
Bianca sank into the sofa, lazily running her fingers over the beads.
“So what if she does?” Bianca scoffed, not even bothering to hide her contempt. “She’s useless. Does she really think she can get revenge?” She gave a cold laugh, not the least bit concerned. “The Sadinton family’s fortune became ours twenty years ago. Amelia has nothing. If she actually dares to go up against my daughter, she’ll end up just like her mother—dead and gone.”
Kristen still looked worried, her brow furrowed.
On the other end, Emmery sounded cool and professional. “Hello, Ms. Watts. I’m calling to let you know that the partnership between Cloudcrest and Green Wall is moving forward as planned. The contract is already signed and sealed. I’ll bring it to your office myself tomorrow. Also, you’ve been specifically invited to join Green Wall’s core project team—Group A.”
“Seriously?” Kristen shot up from the sofa, barely able to hide her excitement. “I’m joining Group A?”
Green Wall’s core was split into three teams, each more secretive than the last, and Group A was by far the most important.
She’d been sure Diego would shut her out after today, especially with Amelia stirring up trouble. Instead, she’d just gotten the one thing everyone wanted.
Trying to keep her composure, Kristen asked, “Emmery, can I ask who invited me?”
“It was the incoming head of Group A who personally requested you,” Emmery answered smoothly. “I can’t share any more details.”
