In other words, she’d soon stop being Mrs. Salmeron for good.
Tara glanced at Amelia’s calm, almost indifferent face and let out a sigh. “Is there really no way you and Mr. Salmeron could work things out?”
“Tara, you’re a smart woman. Since you’re here on behalf of the matriarch, I’m guessing she already knows what the Salmeron family had planned for me, right?” Amelia’s voice was steady, almost too calm.
Tara didn’t know how to respond.
The scandal had been all over the internet these past few days. Even if Bailey and the others wanted to hide it, anything that threatened the company’s interests would make its way to the matriarch through the board.
The old lady might’ve stepped back from the spotlight, but her word still carried a lot of weight.
Amelia had been waiting these past few days—waiting for the matriarch to finally reach out.
“Ms. Sadinton,” Tara corrected herself quietly, “the matriarch said calling you wouldn’t show enough respect, so she asked me to invite you back to the Salmeron house for a real conversation.”
Amelia didn’t hesitate. “All right, I’ll stop by after work.”
“I’ll just wait for you here, then,” Tara replied.
“Whatever works for you.”
Before leaving, Amelia poured Tara another glass of water herself.
Tara watched Amelia walk away, sighing deeply. She reached into her pocket where her phone was still on a muted call.
The matriarch’s tone was ice cold. “Where’s that useless son of yours, Clive? Where is he?”
Donna had just come back after sending Timmy off that morning. When she heard this, she jumped at the chance to report. “Ma’am, Mr. Salmeron went to the hospital to look after Kristen! And he brought Penny with him!”
Donna had been fed up with those two for a long time.
At first, she’d been upset for Amelia’s sake, but then she’d had her own phone smashed and had to put up with that scheming woman’s nonsense.
Now, whenever she could, Donna made sure to speak up—for Ms. Sadinton and, honestly, for herself too.
“Useless fool!” The matriarch was shaking with anger. “Send someone to the hospital right now. Drag him back here!”
