Karma Doesn’t Sleep The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 365

Kristen was lying on her stomach, her back freshly bandaged. She tried not to move, but when she noticed Penny asleep on the little cot nearby, she reached over despite the pain and tucked the blanket around her.

Clive walked in and stopped, quietly watching the scene. Somehow, the mess inside him from the last few days—thanks to Amelia—felt a little lighter.

“Are you feeling any better?” he asked softly.

Kristen gave him a gentle smile. She looked so pale and fragile it hurt to see. “Yeah. You should go rest, Clive. You’ve been here all night. I’m really okay now.”

“The doctor said it was lucky your shirt was acid-resistant. If it hadn’t been…” Clive’s voice trailed off, his lips pressed in a tight line. “Kristen, I owe you so much.”

She’d thrown herself in harm’s way for him—again.

“I don’t want to hear that,” Kristen said, her eyes glistening as she forced a little smile. “Everything I do for you is because I want to. Call me crazy if you want, but when you love someone, you don’t worry about whether it’s worth it.”

Clive frowned, guilt etched on his face. “Kristen—”

She stopped him, her voice soft. “I know you still care about Amelia. That’s okay. You protect her, I’ll protect you.”

No one could stay cold after hearing something like that. With Amelia so distant lately, Kristen just seemed even more heartbreaking.

Clive’s defenses crumbled. When Kristen tried to sit up, he moved quickly to help.

“Don’t move around.”

“I’ve been lying here forever. I just want a little fresh air by the window,” Kristen said, her voice almost playful as she looked up at him.

“Wait a second.” Clive carefully picked up the sleeping Penny and carried her into the side room, making sure she stayed asleep.

Then he came back and gently scooped Kristen into his arms, careful not to touch her bandages, and carried her to the window.

Kristen blushed, wrapping her arms around his neck and resting her chin on his shoulder. She smiled, a little mischievous.

Michael coughed, grinning. “Well. Looks like we picked a bad time.”

Kristen’s cheeks turned bright red as she buried her face in Clive’s chest.

“Michael, give it a rest,” she mumbled.

Cameron’s eyes darkened and he looked away, quietly putting the flowers he’d brought into the vase at the end of the bed.

Clive gently set Kristen back on the bed and propped her up so she could sit comfortably.

Cameron stayed at the side, concern on his face. “How’s your back? I got in touch with a top dermatologist. He’s out of the country at a conference, but he’ll come see you as soon as he’s back.”

Everyone already seemed to know Kristen had shielded Clive from the acid attack, though nobody was sure how the news had spread.

After the mess with Amelia and getting tangled up with the Packman family, Cameron had ended up on the wrong side of his grandfather’s temper. He’d actually been stuck in bed for three days before he could get up again.
