Mr. Baker thought it over for a moment, then gave a quiet nod. He glanced at Felix.
Felix nodded back, got up, and headed for the back door.
Less than ten minutes later, Felix came back, leading a young man whose hands were tied behind his back. The guy was tanned and built solid.
“Let me go!” Patrick was furious, struggling hard. “I told you, I’m just here waiting for our little miss! What gives you the right to grab me?”
He fought against the two bodyguards holding him, but when he looked up and saw Hank, his whole body shook with rage and he almost broke free.
“Hank, you bastard! You’re still alive? You broke my dad’s leg. I swear, you’ll pay for that in blood!”
Mr. Baker’s face darkened and one of the bodyguards pulled out a stun baton, but Amelia cut in sharply, “Don’t touch him!”
She was already stepping forward, standing protectively in front of Patrick.
Nathan couldn’t sit still anymore. He jumped to his feet and moved over to stand with Amelia, making it clear he had her back.
“Let’s talk this out, okay? No one needs to get hurt. Amelia’s here as my guest. If anything happens to her, I’ll hold every single one of you responsible.”
The Morris family’s reputation was no joke. Nathan might not have as much clout as his brother Aaron, but he was still a Morris, and even in the Baker home, that meant something.
Patrick looked at the small girl standing up for him and felt a rush of gratitude and emotion. He tried to explain, his voice shaking a little. “Miss, I swear I never went near the Baker house. I did exactly what you told me—I waited at the corner, then suddenly a bunch of guys came out of nowhere and grabbed me!”
