“You—!” Patrick started to lose his temper again, but Amelia shot him a sharp look that made him fall silent.
Almost everyone in the room was already leaning Hank’s way. He’d anticipated every move Amelia could have made to prove who she was and blocked her at every turn.
Twenty years—he’d had plenty of time to destroy every shred of evidence, cover up every loose end.
Hank leveled a cold stare at Amelia, his eyes narrowing, a flash of something smug passing through them.
She was still too inexperienced to take him on.
Just like Norma back in the day—beautiful, innocent, and way too trusting.
Of all the things in the world to believe in, she’d chosen to believe in a man’s heart, as if it could never change or turn dark.
What a joke.
Norma’s gentle, graceful face flickered through Hank’s mind, making his anger burn even hotter.
Determined to nail Amelia once and for all, Hank put on a show of generosity. “If anyone still has doubts, fine by me. I have nothing to hide. I’m happy to take a DNA test with this so-called daughter of mine. The question is, does Ms. Sadinton have the guts to do the same?”
He’d made sure Norma was reduced to ashes in the end. In life, she couldn’t save the Sadinton family. In death, he’d make sure she couldn’t save her own daughter, either.
Amelia listened quietly, her eyes dropping as her long lashes hid whatever she was feeling.
“Amelia,” Mr. Baker turned to her, hesitating a second before asking, “Are you willing to do the test?”
“Yes.” Amelia’s answer was immediate and steady.
Beside her, Hank let out a cold, grating laugh.
Mr. Baker didn’t waste any time. He ordered the staff to take blood samples from both Amelia and Hank.
