Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 455

In three days, the truth would come out. Everything was just waiting for that moment.

Mr. Baker tried to pull himself together. His legs were aching from standing so long, so he sat down slowly, his expression carefully composed. “Sorry to keep everyone waiting. I got a bit lost in old memories. Thank you all for coming to celebrate my birthday—please, let’s start dinner.”

Patrick was finally let go. Amelia leaned in, whispering a few words just for him. Patrick looked surprised. “Miss…?”

“Just do what I said,” she murmured.

“Yes, ma’am.”

After Patrick left, Amelia glanced across the room. Hank was there, acting like nothing had happened, all smiles as he helped Kristen with her food, the picture of a doting dad.

Amelia couldn’t help the cold smile that tugged at her lips. As she turned to return to her seat, Mr. Baker stopped her.

“Amelia, sit by me tonight.”

Real or not, there was something about her that reminded Mr. Baker of someone he once knew.

Amelia paused for a heartbeat, then moved to sit beside him without protest.

But Mr. Baker barely ate before his face went pale. He pressed his hand to his leg, clearly in pain.

Felix stood up. “Grandpa, let me help you back to your room to rest.”

Mr. Baker shook his head. “No need. Stay here and look after everyone.”

The butler hurried over, quietly pushing Mr. Baker’s wheelchair toward the door.

Amelia put down her fork. “Grandpa Baker, if you don’t mind, can I take a look at your legs?”

Mr. Baker was surprised but nodded after a moment’s hesitation.

Amelia followed him out.

Across the table, the Watts father and daughter watched all of this, their faces dark with frustration.

Felix’s eyes lingered on Amelia’s back as she left. He narrowed his eyes, lips pressed into a thin line, and was just about to get up when he felt a sudden chill down his neck. Turning around, he found Nathan, who had appeared from nowhere, staring at him with those big, curious eyes.

“Where are you going?”

The relationship between the Morris and Baker families was complicated. They weren’t exactly lifelong friends, but they certainly weren’t sworn enemies either. Their ties had always depended on circumstances.

Nathan and Felix had known each other since they were kids, but calling them friends would be a stretch.

Before Felix could answer, Nathan threw an arm around his neck and dragged him straight over to his own table, grinning. “Come on, man! We haven’t had a drink together in forever.”

Nathan had been watching Felix like a hawk all night. He knew Felix wanted to chase after Amelia—and as Ryan’s unofficial relationship bodyguard, there was no way he was going to let that happen.
