Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 456

He wore a simple, elegant suit—nothing flashy—but his face had this powerful, magnetic energy that made it impossible not to notice him.

Amelia followed behind the butler, who was a tall, muscular guy with a military air about him. He’d once been Mr. Baker’s right-hand man, and his broad shoulders completely blocked Amelia from view. She was slender and petite, almost hidden behind him. Ryan didn’t spot her at first.

It wasn’t until the butler hurried ahead to greet Ryan that he finally looked up.

“Mr. Ryan Packman, you’re here already? I thought you wouldn’t arrive until tonight!” the butler exclaimed, genuinely surprised. He’d just gotten word that Mr. Packman’s flight wouldn’t be landing until evening.

He clearly hadn’t expected Ryan to show up in the middle of the day, looking like he’d come straight from the airport without stopping for a breath.

The butler bowed slightly. “Mr. Baker is in the study.”

Ryan nodded, his laid-back expression disappearing the second his gaze landed on Amelia, who stood a few steps behind.

Their eyes met, and for once, Amelia felt awkward. She’d had so many things she wanted to ask him, but as soon as she looked into those deep, dark eyes, all her words vanished.

She tried to pull herself together and was just about to walk over when a bright, playful voice piped up from behind.

Amelia froze. A woman who looked like a real-life porcelain doll caught up, slipping her arm through Ryan’s with easy affection.

Amelia dropped her gaze.

Ryan smoothly pulled his arm free. “Watch your step,” he said.

Amelia heard the butler greet the young woman with extra respect. “Miss Zoe Lennon, you’re here too.”

A bamboo leaf drifted down onto Amelia’s shoe. She nudged it off with her toe.

With four people on the path, it suddenly felt crowded. There was a side path nearby that led out to the garden.

Amelia turned to the butler politely. “You don’t have to walk me out. Please take Mr. Packman and Miss Lennon to see Grandpa Baker. I’ll head this way.”

She gave the butler a polite nod, then turned and headed briskly down the side path. In her head, Ryan’s words from before—“I don’t like it”—echoed.

Ryan watched her go, noticing how much faster she was moving now.

His eyes darkened.

He was the one who wanted to see her. So why was she running away the minute they met?

“Ryan, we—”
