Karma Doesn’t Sleep The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 482

Amelia took a steadying breath and stepped back, putting a little distance between herself and the man in front of her.

The lighting in the private room was dim, but she could still make out his features.

Ryan was leaning against the door. Maybe it was the alcohol, but the corners of his eyes were tinged red, like there was a hidden fire just beneath the surface. He looked down at her, his dark eyes reflecting her image—like she was trapped in his gaze and couldn’t get out.

Amelia pressed her lips together. “Ryan, are you drunk?”

He didn’t answer, just narrowed his eyes a bit.

A breeze drifted in through the half-opened carved window, blowing his dark hair across his forehead and making his eyes look even deeper, almost impossible to read.

“Amelia…”

It was the first time all night he’d said her name. His voice was so low and rough it sent a shiver through her.

He asked quietly, “Do you really hate me that much?”

He stared at her, his black eyes wet and intense, like he’d been holding back a storm for years.

Amelia froze. She’d never seen Ryan look so vulnerable, so lost.

“I don’t,” she said right away. Her voice was serious and soft. “Ryan, I don’t hate you at all. I mean it.”

Back in college, sure, she couldn’t stand him. But now… things were different.

Ryan didn’t buy it. “You’re lying. If you don’t hate me, why do you keep your distance?”

Amelia finally realized just how drunk he was.

She sighed. “Ryan, I just don’t like owing people. I can pay back money, but favors? I’m scared I’ll never be able to repay you.”

She’d barely finished when Ryan suddenly winced in pain, his brow furrowing. The next thing she knew, his tall frame wobbled and then collapsed toward her.

“Ryan!” Amelia rushed forward to catch him.

His forehead landed against her neck, burning hot. His whole body radiated heat, like he was running a fever.

It hit her all at once, and she frowned in disbelief.

“You’re burning up. Are you crazy? You have a fever and you’re still out drinking with Dr. Wade?”

“Amelia, apologize to me,” Ryan mumbled against her skin.

She rolled her eyes. “Get up first. You’re way too heavy for me to hold.”

He wouldn’t budge. “Apologize.”

Amelia stared at him, exasperated. Reasoning with a feverish drunk was pointless.

She gave in with a sigh. “Fine, I’m sorry. Happy now?”

Ryan just nuzzled into her neck like a cat, making her whole body tingle. She tried to push him away, but he wouldn’t move.

She hesitated, then wiped her lips and decided to let it go.

“Ryan, I don’t care if you understand me or not, but after this, we’re even.”

She was about to call Francisco to come get him. Someone like Ryan probably had private doctors on call—last time he was sick, he refused to go to the hospital.

She pulled out her phone, but before she could dial, Ryan’s phone started ringing in his pocket.

Ryan obediently handed it to her without even checking the screen.

Francisco’s name was on the caller ID.

Amelia answered immediately, but before she could say a word, Francisco’s voice came through, more serious than she’d ever heard.

“Mr. Packman, I’ve double-checked the security at Mr. Sadinton’s place and added more staff. Nothing’s going to happen. There haven’t been any incidents in years, and there won’t be any this week either. You can relax, not even a fly could get in…”

Amelia barely registered the rest.

Her head started to spin, her thoughts going blank.

She stared at the barely-conscious Ryan, a shiver running through her.

So Ryan was the one who arranged the nursing home. He was the one who protected her grandfather all this time?

Amelia was so stunned, she didn’t even notice the brief, clear look of sobriety that flashed through Ryan’s dark eyes.
