Amelia never expected Will to show up at her door so early.
She had zero plans to open up. Her strategy was simple: stay quiet and pretend she wasn’t home. But just as she settled in to wait him out, her phone rang—loudly. Of course, it was Will calling, and of course, she was holding it right in her hand. The ringtone blasted through the silence, loud enough for Will to hear without question.
He must’ve known she was standing right behind the door, because he looked straight at the security camera and grinned, like he wasn’t going anywhere.
Amelia let out a resigned sigh and finally opened the door.
“Did you need something?” she asked, trying to sound casual.
Will lifted a takeout bag. “I picked up too much breakfast. Since Timmy’s here, I thought I’d bring you both some.”
Amelia frowned, confused. “How did you know Timmy—”
Before she could finish, Timmy came out of the bedroom, all washed up and dressed, drawn by the noise. He greeted Will politely, like this was all perfectly normal.
“Good morning, Uncle Will.”
Not even a hint of surprise.
Amelia put it all together instantly. Timmy must’ve told Kyle—Will’s nephew—that he was staying over, and Kyle must have passed it on.
“Hey, Timmy.” Will crouched to meet Timmy at eye level, smiling. “These soup dumplings are amazing. I even waited in line to get them. Want to try one?”
Timmy was hungry, but he glanced at his mom first for the okay.
Amelia could never resist that look. She stepped aside to let Will come in.
She headed to the kitchen for plates while Will unpacked the breakfast—steaming dumplings, corn, eggs, even some porridge. The table was packed, overflowing with food.
“Did you buy out the whole breakfast shop?” Amelia raised an eyebrow.
