“There’s no such thing, Timmy.”
Ryan jumped in, grinning. “Me, bully your mom? Not a chance. If anything, she bullies me. You should’ve seen her when she slapped me—hard and loud. You missed quite a show.”
Amelia shot him a look. She knew Ryan could hold a grudge like nobody else.
Timmy’s eyes got huge with surprise, curiosity bubbling up. “Mom, you hit Uncle Ryan? When did that happen?”
It was a funny image—his gentle, tiny mom going after tall, tough Uncle Ryan. At five, Timmy just couldn’t picture it.
Ryan probably didn’t even remember the time he kissed her when he was drunk and got a slap in return. He must be talking about that other time, when he badmouthed Clive… Ugh, those days. Amelia’s old crush felt like a bad joke now, a part of her life she wanted to erase.
“Timmy, go finish your homework, okay? I’ll call you when dinner’s ready.”
Timmy dragged his feet, still looking back at Ryan, clearly dying for more details.
Ryan winked at him. “Go on. I’ll tell you all about your mom’s wild years someday.”
Timmy’s eyes sparkled with excitement. “Promise?”
Amelia rolled her eyes. Once Timmy left, she turned to Ryan with a warning. “Don’t you dare fill his head with crazy stories.”
Ryan just smirked, enjoying every second. “Which part are you worried about—the time you slapped me twice?”
Amelia paused, caught off guard. “You remember that?”
