Kristen eased open the door just as Penny was waking up.
“Momma Kristen…” Penny mumbled, rubbing the sleep from her eyes.
Kristen walked over, pulling a silver pocket watch from her purse. She sat down on the edge of Penny’s bed and let the watch swing gently in front of her. “Sweetheart, do you remember what you’re supposed to do today?” she asked, her voice soft and soothing.
The watch glinted as it moved back and forth, catching Penny’s gaze. Kristen knew the relaxing scent in the room helped, but it was the hypnosis tricks she’d learned from Bianca, along with Penny’s trust and all those little hints over time, that made it really work. With Penny, this gentle routine was the most effective.
Sure enough, Penny nodded, sleepy but obedient. “I remember.”
Kristen pressed a kiss to her forehead. “Good girl. Momma Kristen loves you so much.”

At breakfast, Amelia mentioned to Timmy that Penny had called and wanted to come over tonight.
Timmy’s whole face lit up. “Mom, after school can I meet up with Penny? Where should we go tonight?”
Amelia smiled. “You two can decide. I’m up for anything.”
“Let’s go to the night market! Penny loves it—there’s good food and all sorts of fun stuff!”
“Sounds great.”
Amelia noticed the time and hurried Timmy to go change for school. As soon as he was ready, the doorbell rang. Patrick was already at the door.
“Good morning, Miss. Good morning, Timmy,” Patrick greeted them.
“Morning, Patrick,” Timmy replied, polite as always.
After the presentation, Amelia told everyone to discuss things among themselves. Her coffee mug was empty, so she grabbed her phone and headed to the break room to make some coffee.
While she was waiting for it to brew, her phone buzzed with a message. It was from Ryan.
Meanwhile, back in the conference room, the chatter suddenly stopped. Everyone stared at the projector screen as Ms. Sadinton’s message window popped open, showing a contact named Ryan.
Ryan: Homework, please.
He’d attached a photo—an empty bowl, the medicine clearly finished.
The silence in the room was so intense that when Belle’s pen clattered to the table, it sounded loud enough to echo.
Finally, someone cleared their throat and asked quietly, “Belle, um… this Ryan in Ms. Sadinton’s messages—he wouldn’t happen to be our boss, Mr. Packman, would he?”
